Frootbat Friday: Skin Biopsy

Update: 1620:  Devi here again.  I am back home, wearing the cone of shame.  But it's a nice, small, soft Kong one, so it's not too bad.

The vet said I did great while sedated.  She was able to get some good samples of some of my skin lesions, the ones that looked the most active right now.  They are being sent off to derm pathology, and we should have an answer by next Friday.  Of course, the answer might just be inflammation, which won't tell us very much, but maybe we'll get some greater clarification.

My mom and I are having a girls night tonight as I need to be kept quiet, so we don't want Merlin bugging me.  Dragonheart would leave me alone, but it's going to be just me and my mom in the big bedroom and ensuite tonight, and the boys will be with our dad on the futon.

Thank you again for your purrs and prayers.  I appreciate them!

Original Post:

Hello all!  Devi here.  Today I am at the vet for a skin biopsy.  We are hoping to figure out what is causing my skin lesions.

The vet says that the pattern of my lesions is very unusual, so with any luck the biopsy will give us some idea as to what it causing them.   I was quite hungry this morning, as mom and dad took our food away last night, and then didn't give us breakfast this morning.  I was wondering if they forgot about breakfast, but no, I had to go back to the vet.

They gave me an anti-nauseant at the vet to start, as we discovered the first time that they tried to sedate me that I'm quite sensitive to the safest sedative for Sphynx, and it caused me to vomit.  Now they give me an anti-nauseant ahead of time, so that the sedative doesn't cause my stomach to be upset.

While the anti-nauseant was taking effect, I explored the cat room that I was in.  My mom and dad were waiting with me.

After the anti-nauseant took effect, the vet injected me with the sedation.  I did not like that and was hissing and yowling.  But then when it began to take effect, I started to calm down.

So now I'm at the vet, and they are going to biopsy a bunch of my skin lesions, and then I'll have to wear the cone of shame for a while, so that I don't pick at my stitches.  I'm not looking forward to that.  Fortunately we have a nice, soft, Kong cone, so it's not as bad as those horrible plastic cones.

My mom will update this post as we get any news from the vet.  Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and purrs.

Now Devi, I have to admit you have been really brave today. I confess I am not so brave and I also hate the vet's place. Our paws are all crossed for the biopsy and we hope the stitches are tiny and will cause no irritation for you. The cone would make a very good food funnel for you so we hope it gets filled up.

We'll keep checking the blog for news.

Oh, and we hope that the Canadian customs will allow our little letter to you through with no problems. Paws crossed.

Oh dear! How big a lump the vet stole from your skin if stiches are needed? Fortunately the cone is only a temporary distraction...

Oh no - we can't believe that you could be that brave Devi - we whimper when we've only just caught sight of the cat carrier. Please let us know if you are OK.

Devi, we're glad all went well though we're sorry you have to wear the cone. We'll be interested in finding out what is causing the lesions too since Ernie has started to have problems...we thought his skin issues were clearing up, but now they're back again. He's taking pred and antibiotics again...if they don't clear up, then he'll be facing a skin biopsy just like you.
