Purrs for Dragonheart today, please. He is going to the vet as his molars appear to be bothering him. He has been pawing at his face and meowing as if he's in pain. A quick vet trip the other day found that his top molars looked very decayed, so they are going to investigate today (x-rays and extractions if needed), so he needs to be anaesthetized. Dragonheart has a heart murmur and very mild hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, so anaesthesia is always a risk. Our vets are very good though, and take every precaution. They've also anaesthetized Dragonheart before, so they know what works for him. At the quick vet trip they gave Dragonheart a long-lasting painkiller, and he's been acting normally since then, so it does appear that he was in pain at the very least.
So purrs would be appreciate today that all goes well, and they it is just the teeth bothering him. The bloodwork they took at the quick vet appointment all came back normal, so that's good.
Thank you for your purrs!
Update: 10:45: So Dragonheart took the sedation well. They are extracting one tooth, and the gum behind the tooth looks like it has gum hyperplasia. So they are doing a biopsy to make sure it is nothing serious. We are all very happy that the sedation has gone well, and that they are able to do the extraction at this time so he doesn't have to go back again.
Update: 12 noon: The vet reports that Dragonheart is looking good and having a cuddle. They sent us this photo:
The vet students love us Sphynx! We are always a big hit when we go to the vet. Thank you again for your purrs, positive thoughts, and prayers!
Update: 13:00: So our mom spoke with the vet student overseeing Dragonheart's care (he also had a full veterinary doctor working on him), and it turns out that with Dragonheart's bottom right molar, there was a deep pocket, the bone had receded, and one of the roots was exposed. That's probably why he was in pain. The gum hyperplasia they figure was due to the pain - he was probably irritating that area, and so the gum there became enlarged and inflamed. But they removed the little lump and are sending it to be tested, just to be sure. The rest of his teeth looked good.
So silly Dragonheart, hiding the pain from us until it got to this point. Although the vet said that cats are very good at hiding pain, and very very good at hiding oral pain. It is a good thing our mom noticed him pawing at his cheeks the other day. He had been meowing at his food plate, but he does that quite often anyway, as he is the fussiest of us three. At least it's been taken care of, and he should be fine now.

Dragonheart we are sorry to hear that you have got some bad teeth and have been given a long lasting painkiller. We hope all will go well when those teeth have been cleaned and you don't need anything more to be done.
