Tuxie Tuesday: Dragonheart

Hello all!  Dragonheart here.  I could use some purrs today.  I'm headed to the vet this afternoon.  You see, I've been sneezing and stuffed up for about a week.  At first we thought it was due to a new litter that we tried.  I have allergies and asthma, so we are normally careful about the litter we use, but our old litter, that we loved, was tracking through the house horribly now that we have hardwood floors, so we decided to try something new.  Well, that didn't work.  I started being stuffed up, so we went back to the old litter.  Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to have helped.  I'm still sneezing and sound very congested, so I'm off to the vet today.

Despite being congested, I'm still eating normally, so my mom and dad aren't too worried about me.  They just know I'm not very comfortable, because I almost sound like Darth Vader when I'm breathing.  Hopefully the vet will have something to help me.

We won't be going to the vet until 1600 (4 PM EST), but we will update the post when we are back.

Update:  We are back from the vet.  The good news is that my temperature is normal.  As for the rest, well, the vet isn't sure if she's hearing an infection in my lungs, or if it's my asthma, so she's putting me on antibiotics for ten days, and I have to go back for a re-check next week to see what my lungs sound like.  I also have to have some moisture gel put in my eyes, as my eyes have some discharge (but fortunately it's not coloured discharge, so there's no eye infection).

I'm also supposed to get a "sauna" every day for 10-15 minutes a day.  Since we don't actually have a sauna (unlike our Finnish friends at http://www.pikkupunapippuri.com), that means I get locked in the bathroom with my mom or dad when they soak in our soaker tub or take a hot shower, so that hopefully the steam will help with my congestion.

Tuxie Tuesday: Comfy!

Dragonheart here!  I love my mom - she's my human, just like our dad is Merlin's human.  Yesterday, I had fun climbing into her sweatshirt and hanging out there, purring, while she worked on the computer for a bit.  It was very cozy in there.  I also demanded head rubs for a while, but we didn't get any photos of that.

Do any of you like to climb into your humans' clothes?

Tuxie Tuesday: Update on Us

Hello all!  Dragonheart here.  I've discovered that the desk makes a wonderful spot to lie in the sun, now that it's in a new position, after being moved around during the staging of our house.

We weren't around on the weekend, and won't be next weekend either, because currently our dad is only home on the weekends, so we and our mom are spending lots of time with him when he's home. He had to report for duty at his new posting the day after Labour Day, and that city is about a 4 hour drive away, so he stays there during the week, and comes home on weekends.  He will continue to do that until we actually move!  Although next weekend our humans are going up to Ottawa for a very special race, the Army Run, which raises money for Soldier On, which helps injured and disabled soldiers.

After that, we move into a hotel on September 26th, when movers will arrive to pack up all our stuff, then load it, and then move it to our new city.  Then we will move into a hotel in our new city, until our new home is ready on October 13th.  So we will be living in hotels for quite some time.  Merlin and I have done it before, when we moved from Germany all the way to Edmonton, Alberta, and again when we moved from Alberta to Ontario.  This time it will be a much closer move, but because of the closing dates on the houses, we'll still be in hotels for a long time.

Our mom is still looking for work as a registered dietitian, and is busy customizing her resume and cover letter for all the jobs she applies to.  We don't mind if she stays home to be with us, but we know she would like to be working.

Until she finds a permanent job as a dietitian, she is designing scrapbook pages.  She is offering her services for $10 for a page with up to 3 photos, $15 for a page with 4 or more photos.  You can see her gallery here.  She is able to make pages with any of the kits that you see in her gallery, and she also has some additional cat- and pet-related kits in her supplies.  If you would like a page made, please contact us!  Thanks!

Tuxie Tuesday: Dragonheart

Dragonheart here.  I'm just hanging around, taking my painkillers, and sleeping a lot until I see the oral surgeon on August 11th.  My mom and dad are happy that I'm taking my painkiller without too much fuss, so they haven't had to try mixing it into my food or anything.  The painkiller seems to be working, as I'm not chewing on the gum hyperplasia mass in my mouth anymore, so it isn't bleeding.

Terrific Tuxie Tuesday: Birthday Aftermath

Dragonheart here!  Thank you to everyone who came to my 10th birthday party yesterday!

 

Since some of you couldn't comment on my birthday post until this morning, we are counting all the comments made up until 0600 EDT this morning, which means your comments raised $37.50 for SOAR - Sphynx Open Arms Rescue!  So we are going to donate $40 to SOAR at the end of the month on payday.  We will post the donation when it is made

I had a good birthday with lots of head rubs from my mom and dad, and some of my favourite food - Almo Nature.  I had some yummy Wild Boar treats from Orijen as well.  All in all, it was a good birthday.

We hope all our friends are having a good week.  It is very hot and humid here, but we fortunately have air conditioning, so we aren't roasting.

Tuxie Tuesday: Warm Laundry

Dragonheart here!  So yesterday I took the last of the painkiller medication for my mouth.  Hopefully I will not start chewing on my gums again.  My mom is going to keep a very close eye on me.

Here I am enjoying some nice, warm laundry.  My mom and dad didn't seem to appreciate the fact that I was putting my wonderful Sphynx oil all over their clean clothes.  All clothes in this house must have some amount of Sphynx oil on them!  I don't know why they don't realize that.

Tuxie Tuesday: New Camera

Dragonheart here!  So our mom's old camera died.  To be fair, she's had it since 2007, and it travelled to Egypt twice, Rome twice, throughout Europe, on an Eastern Mediterranean cruise, across Canada and back twice, so it has done a pretty good job.  But it finally died, so she needed a new camera.

So, I've mentioned before that Devi can be a pain sometimes.  Despite that, I do love her.  Here you can see that I am sharing the comfy cat cave with her.  Aren't I a good older brother?

In other news, our mom may have incorrectly estimated how much time and energy she would have at the end of a long day at her clinical placement.  So if we don't visit our friends much for the next little while, we apologize.  And if we miss a day or two of posting, don't panic.  It just means our mom is super busy with her placement and can't help us use the computer.  Know that we are thinking of you!

Tuxie Tuesday: Proof

Dragonheart here!  So, I'm not sure if it was on here or on Merlin's Facebook page, but a bunch of you had a hard time believing that Devi can be a little brat.  I know, she's adorable, but she can be a real pain sometimes!

For example, here I was, quite comfortable curled up with my brother.

Then Devi decides to come along.  She wanted to curl up in the nice warm cozy purple cat cave.

You see that paw?  She's getting ready to whack at me!  And here she is post-whack!  You can see I've drawn back to try to get away from the paw of doom.

So finally, after she whacked me good in the face, I had to get my paw up to whack her back!  But she was the instigator!  I just wanted to be left alone in the cozy cat cave with Merlin.

So there you have it!  Proof that Devi is a little brat.  She's far too free with the whacking paw of hers.  It's clear she never had big brothers in her previous home, to show her proper ladylike behaviour.

Tuxie Tuesday: The Two Ds

Dragonheart here.  Although my little sister Devi can be a pain in the butt sometimes, as you can see from this photo, I really do love her.  We are known as "The Two Ds" or the "Double Ds" since both of our names start with "D."

We are also known as the two black and whites, although that doesn't have quite the same ring to it.  Yes, we are both black and white.  I'm a black and white tuxedo, and Devi is a black and white bicolour (her white pattern doesn't match the tuxedo pattern).  Where our skin is grey, that's where we would have black fur, if we had fur.  You can see the black on my nose and on both our ears, where we do have a bit of fur.  Where we have pink skin, we would have white fur, as you can see on the bridge of both our noses.

Tuxie Tuesday: One Ear

When I burrow, I always like to keep one ear out, just so I can hear if one of my crazy siblings is about to pounce on me.

Tuxie Tuesday: Cozy

Dragonheart here!  Merlin has been spending most of the time posting, but it's Tuxie Tuesday, so now it's my turn!

I like to curl up under the warm wool afghan that my mom crocheted!  It is very nice and very warm. Our mom has an Etsy shop, where she sells some of her crochet to pay for our vet bills!

Do you see the spots on my skin?  Those are age spots.  According to our veterinarian, most cats will have them as they get older.  You just can't see them on furry cats because of all the fur!  Since we Sphynx only have a bit of fur on our faces and our ears (and sometimes our tails), you can see the age spots on our skin.  Of course, some cats will have more age spots than others, and they will be more or less visible, depending on their colour.  I'm 9 years old (I'll be ten in July), and I'm a black and white tuxedo.  I have quite a few dark, visible age spots.  Merlin is 8 years old (he'll be 9 in September if he makes it until then), is seal lynx point and white in colouration, and he only has a few, light-coloured age spots.  Devi is 5 (she'll be 6 in April) and she doesn't have any age spots yet.

Tuxie Tuesday: Warm!

Dragonheart here!  Merlin has been posting so far, so now it's my turn.

No, I'm not a grumpy old fart.  Yes, I do save my energy most of the time, but I can still play and run around like a crazy cat when I'm in the mood.  Yes, I have a grade 2 heart murmur, and I'm equivocal for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, but fortunately I don't need to be on medicine for it.  I also have asthma, and I take a puffer every morning.  I've only needed to use my rescue inhaler a couple of times over the past year, since starting the preventative puffer in the morning.  So I think I'm entitled to be a "lump" most of the time.

Here I'm enjoying the heating pad (nice and comfy under it) since my crazy siblings are running around like mad cats, so I have the heatie pad all to myself!
