Thankful Thursday: Dragonheart's Trip to the Vet

Dragonheart here!  Thank you all for your purrs, positive thoughts, and prayers yesterday.  We greatly appreciated them!

So I had to go back to the vet yesterday to be sedated and have my mouth looked at, since where they did my extraction looked inflamed and swollen, but they couldn't get a very good look at it because it was a bottom molar at the very back.

Waiting at the vet with my dad

So, they sedated me, had a good look, and it was definitely very red and angry looking.  So the vet called my mom, asking if they could anaesthetize me, so that they could remove the swollen, inflamed mass, and send it off for biopsy, just to make sure it was only inflamed gum tissue, and not a tumour.

In the exam room with my dad

So, they removed the mass, and where they did the extraction, which they could see underneath the mass once they removed it, everything had healed beautifully, and the stitches had all dissolved.  There was nothing exposed under the tissue they had stitched together.  But, it looked like I was chewing on my gums, causing the swelling and inflammation.  Nevertheless, they are still having the mass looked at by pathology, just to be sure.

So after all that I was quite grumpy.  I didn't want to take my antibiotic or my pain medication when I got home.  My mom ended up getting most of the antibiotic in me, and the vet said not to worry about the pain meds as the drugs they gave me during the anaesthesia were probably still working.  My mom didn't even try to put in my eye drops.

I did take my pain meds this morning though!  My mom hasn't tried my eye drops yet, but she will shortly.

So thank you again for your purrs, prayers, and positive thoughts.  Hopefully with the pain meds and the antibiotic I won't chew my gums again and cause another mass.  My mom will be home a lot more for the next little while, as she is doing a research practicum where she can work mostly from home, so she'll be able to keep a close eye on me and bring me back into the vet at the first sign that I'm chewing my gums again.  She still has to put in a full day's work, but she can do it from home and only need to commute into her placement one day a week, which is nice.  So she can make sure I'm okay.  Our dad has to go into work for a week of half-days, to reintegrate after being overseas, but then he has two weeks off, so we'll be spending lots of time with him too.  He'll actually be keeping us from walking all over mom's keyboard when she's trying to work!

Thank you all for your comments and well wishes.  Hopefully we will get around to visiting all of you when our mom finishes up her work for the day.

Please leave us a comment here! Thanks!

Grumpy is a good sign - miserable is not! We know you'll end up getting those meds in you but give those humans the run around first. We have paws crossed for the pathology - hopefully it was just some nasty stuff from the surgery and nothing else.
Is your Daddy home now or will he be going back overseas in the near future?
Äiti says she could do with having someone to protect the keyboard when she does stuff - and why is it that the nekkids ALWAYS turn on that so irritating voiceover thing? And failing that they close the computer down. Hehehehehe.

That is all good news, Dragonheart. We hope all of this will be nothing more than an unpleasant memory very soon. And with your Mom at home and your Dad home, life should be good!

That is good news that it sounds like the mass was caused by you chewing on your gums. Try not to do it again, and I hope you are soon healed and back to normal.

You aren't alone in being grumpy after a vet visit. There's no place like home.
