Easy Like Sunday Morning

Here is a digital scrapbooking layout my mom made of me in my sleeping bag.

Dragonheart's Sleeping Bag(Click photo to view a larger image. Credits for the layout can be found here)

I'm doing okay. I slept most of the day yesterday, but started playing in the middle of the night, so that made my mom happy (although she didn't like being disturbed!) I'm eating my crunchies, but not my stinky goodness. I took my pill with no problems yesterday, and my last two poops have been okay. Warning: TMI coming up! My problem with my poops was my bum would have blood on it (bright red) after I made stinkies, and my poops had a little blood on the surface too.

Anyhow, we should hear back from the vet tomorrow whether they found anything when running the tests. I kneaded my mom really well this morning as she was eating breakfast, so that made her happy too.

Thanks again for all your purrs and prayers. My humans and I really appreciate them!

Photo Hunters: Original

PSHunt

Original

This was the original resting place of Canada's Unknown Soldier. He was an unidentified Canadian soldier from the First World War, originally buried at this Commonwealth Grave Site near Canada's National Vimy Memorial, in France. As Wikipedia says:
"The body of the soldier was formerly buried near the memorial at Vimy Ridge, Pas-de-Calais, France, the site of the first major battle where Canadian troops fought as a combined force. More specifically, the soldier was at the Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery in Souchez, in Plot 8, Row E, Grave 7, only a couple of kilometres from the Vimy Memorial."

Former grave site of Canada's Unknown Soldier

From the Veteran's Affairs Canada web site:
"In May 2000, the remains of an unidentified Canadian soldier who died in the First World War were repatriated from France and, with great ceremony, were buried in a special tomb in front of the National War Memorial in Ottawa.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was created to honour the more than 116,000 Canadians who sacrificed their lives in the cause of peace and freedom. Furthermore, the Unknown Soldier represents all Canadians, whether they be navy, army, air force or merchant marine, who died or may die for their country in all conflicts - past, present, and future."
My humans took these photos during their trip to France in August. As a serving officer in the Canadian Forces, my dad made a point of visiting many of the former battle sites and memorials from the First World War in Northern France, and of course, Canada's National War Memorial at Vimy Ridge.

Update on me: Both yesterday morning and this morning, I was fine when using the litterbox, but last night, my bum was bloody again. My humans successfully gave me my pill, but then I threw it up, so it didn't do much good. We are waiting to hear back from the vet on the test results.

Thank you all for your suggestions. My humans haven't been able to source Pill Pockets in Germany, and ordering from North America is expensive, and things have to go through Customs, so you end up paying a lot and it takes a long time. I do get teeth-cleaning treats daily - both Feline Greenies and some German teeth-cleaning treats, but they don't seem to do much. (Feline Greenies are safe, btw. My vet sells them in her office for cats with dental problems.)

I eat very high quality foods. My wet food consists of 75% meat or fish, 24% cooking water and 1% rice. My dry food is grain-free. Both are 100% organic, and made of hormone-free, antibiotic-free meats and ocean- or wild lake-caught fish. Bad teeth are just something that Sphynx are prone to, so I guess I'll have to live with it. My humans have been searching and searching for a German site that sells cat toothpaste, or the water additive that can help with teeth. My mom finally found a site that sells cat toothpaste, toothbrushes, and gel last night, so she ordered some. She still hasn't found a place offering the water additive.

Thanks for all your thoughts, purrs and prayers. They mean a lot to me and my humans.

Frootbat Fashion Friday: Hope Jewel & A Trip to the Vet

The talented and generous Miss Peach auctioned off some beautiful Hope Jewels to raise money for Hope, a brave momma kitty Hope, her kittens, and the wonderful human who helped them, Jody. Here I am modelling my Hope Jewel. Isn't it beautiful? (As always, you can click any photo to view a larger image.)

Here is a close-up of my beautiful Hope Jewel. Miss Peach and her mom are so talented!

And here is the beautiful card that Miss Peach sent along with the jewel.

Card from Miss Peach
So, yesterday I had to go to the vet. Yesterday, after I made stinkies in my litterbox, my mom noticed there was blood on my bum. After wiping it off, she looked in the litterbox and noticed a bit of blood on my stool too. So, it was off to the vet.

There are two very nice lady vets at my vet's office, one who is older, and one who is younger. They both looked at me, but it was the younger one who did most of the work. She stuck something cold up my bum, which I didn't like at all, and my mom and dad and the older vet held me still while she did that. I confess I was squirming a lot. Then, after it was removed, she stuck me with a sharp prick! I was a good boy, and didn't even cry out. I was weighed, and I weigh 7.8 lbs / 3.54 kg. Then the vet gave my mom some pills that I have to take for the next 6 days. My mom worked at a vet's office one summer when she was a student, so she knows how to pill a cat, but I still don't think she's looking forward to the experience.

My mom had to collect a sample of my stool, whatever that is, and I noticed her poking around in the litterbox after I made stinkies again. Humans can be very weird at times.

Anyhow, the vet doesn't think there is anything seriously wrong with me, since I'm eating normally and playing almost as much as I usually do. They'll have a better idea what's going on after they test that stool-stuff.

Unfortunately, once I'm all better from whatever is bugging my tummy at the moment, I have to have my teeth cleaned. I sadly have a lot of tartar for a cat my age. Unfortunately, bad teeth are not uncommon in Sphynx (yet another trait we share with Meezers) although they often look worse then they are, because some of the brown oil that accumulates on our skin can transfer to our teeth when we groom ourselves, giving them a brown appearance. But I also have tartar, and that's not from the grooming. So, when I'm back to normal, I have to go in to have my teeth cleaned. Yuck.

Anyhow, I would appreciate any healing purrs you can send my way. As I said, I'm eating and playing like normally, so likely it's just a bit of a bug I picked up while exploring the yard on my harness, or else it's just something that irritated my bowel. But some purrs would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thursday Thirteen: My Future Sibling

Thursday Thirteen
#35 - 13 Things About My Future Sibling

(Photos to the right courtesy of Miracle Love Cattery)

  1. My future sibling will be a little brother! We don't yet know which of the two little boys you can see to the right that he will be, but he will be one of them!

  2. He will be a Sphynx, like me, since my dad is allergic to cats, but fortunately isn't allergic to Sphynx! (Some people with allergies can tolerate Sphynx, others can't.)

  3. He doesn't have a name yet, but he will be named by his breeder, Miracle Love Cattery.

  4. He is a pointed Sphynx, which means he will be patterned like a Siamese.

  5. He is still very young, so we don't know exactly what colour he will be yet. Pointed kittens are born all white (pink in the case of Sphynx) and their points slowly develop as they grow older.

  6. He will have blue eyes.

  7. He will come to live with us sometime in December. He needs to be between 12 and 16 weeks old before he can leave his breeder's.

  8. He was born on September 2nd.

  9. I am really looking forward to having a little brother!

  10. It will be wonderful having someone to play and wrestle with!

  11. I love cuddling with my humans, but it will be nice having someone about my own size to cuddle up with, especially when my humans aren't around.

  12. It will be fun teaching him all about our home and how things work here.

  13. I am very excited and happy to be getting a little brother!

Mancat Monday

Here I am, sitting in my "guy position" while curled up in my fleece blanket. Although it is still very warm during the day, in the morning and at night it's nice curling up in a warm fleece blanket. You can also see my unique Sphynx paws in this photo, especially if you click to see a larger version.

Easy Like Sunday Morning

Well, both my humans and I are taking it easy this weekend. My dad came home very late Friday night / Saturday morning, after being in Riga, Latvia all week, and instead of landing in Munich, they were re-routed to Nürnberg (Nuremburg) and then bussed to Munich. On top of it, both of my humans are feeling a little bit under the weather, so they don't feel like doing much of anything. So, if I don't have a chance to visit all of my friends who visited yesterday, and who visit today, please understand. Thanks. I will get around to visiting all of you as soon as I can.

My mom thinks I look very silly curled up asleep in this position. What can I say? It's comfy.

Photo Hunters: Paper

PSHunt

Paper

Paper is a lot of fun to play with! In these photos, from earlier this year (January and February) I am playing in my favourite yellow paper box that has some wonderful tissue paper in it! I loved this box. I would attack it, chew on it, play in it, sit in it - it was a great toy until it was finally in shreds and needed to be recycled. In addition, as a purebred Sphynx, I am registered with TICA and have papers myself!

Frootbat Friday & A Meme

Here I am, all curled up in my mom's lap, in my fleece blanket. It's a very cozy and comfy place to be, especially in the morning or in the evening, now that fall is here.

(Click photo to view a larger image)

Several cats have tagged me for the Name Meme. Many of you already know the story behind my name. It's not terribly exciting. My full name is Hair'N'Skin Dragonheart, with Hair'N'Skin being the name of my breeder (because she has Persians - the "hair" part, and Sphynx - the "skin" part.) Basically, my breeder has a "theme" for each of her litters. The theme for my litter was "Fairy Tales" and so I was named Dragonheart and my brother was named Merlin. My nickname at my breeder's was Drake to start, and then Drago. My humans, however, just about always call me Dragonheart. Yes, it's long, but it suits me and they like it. When they want to use a shorter name for me, it's usually "Dude." If you want to see some photos of Merlin and I as kittens, you can visit my breeder's site.

Thursday Thirteen: Trier, Germany

Thursday ThirteenWe end our brief tour of parts of France and Germany with the city of Trier, Germany. Trier is the oldest city in Germany. It was founded in 17 BC by the Romans. Trier contains 8 World Heritage Sites, and you will see some of them in the photos below (Imperial Baths, Porta Nigra, Cathedral, Liebfrauenkirche).

Meow Like a Pirate Day

Ahoy me hearties! Today be "Meow Like a Pirate Day," aye. Arrr, in honour o' this day, my mom has created these two pirate layouts o' me, gar!

My pirate name is:
Captain Roger Bonney

Even though there's no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you're the one in charge. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate's life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!

Cats on Tuesday: My Exciting Announcement

Cats on Tuesday I few of you already heard this announcement in the chat room, but I am making my official announcement here.

In December, I will be getting a little brother!!!

The kitten won't be coming from my breeder, unfortunately, because her August litter consisted of only one little girl, who is a furry Sphynx. (Yes, Sphynx will fur are still occasionally born - remember that Sphynx have been crossed with other breeds to create a healthy, robust breed with a wide gene pool. Also, the Sphynx gene is recessive to normal hair, although it is dominant over Rex-type curly hair.)

Another German breed had a litter of kittens on September 2nd (two girls and two boys) and one of the little boys will be coming to live with us in December! He will be a pointed (Siamese-patterned Sphynx). We don't know exactly what colour he will be yet, because he is still so young. Like with Stella's Meezer babies, the pointed Sphynx are born solid white (pink) and slowly develop their point colours as they grow older. The kittens' sire is a red-point and white and their dam is blue-point and white.

In these photos, the kittens are just one week old, so they are still pink and very young. We don't yet know which of the little boys will be coming to live with us (we'll see how the kittens develop) but one of them will become my little brother in December!

These first photos are of the two little boys. There are courtesy of the breeder, Miracle Love Cattery. (Click photos to view a larger image)

Easy Like Sunday Morning & Cat Art Sunday

First I want to share the fabulous work of art that Maggy & Zoey created for me! Isn't it fabulous? A Sphynx in front of the pyramids seems appropriate, since the sphinx is normally found there. (Note the difference in spelling: Sphynx refers to the breed of hairless cats, and Sphinx refers to the half-human, half-animal statues found throughout Egypt and in some other parts of the world, like ancient Greece.)

(Click photo for a larger image)

For Easy Like Sunday Morning, here I am, curled up in my fleece blanket on my human mom's lap. Fall is in the air, and so it is cool in the mornings, so I like to snuggle in my mom's lap in my blanket. It warms up through the day though, and I like to lie in the sun when the afternoon sun shines through the windows onto my Gizzy quilt or fleece pad. But in the morning, after I've had a play session, I like to snuggle in my mom's lap.

Finally, I want to wish Skeezix a Very Happy Birthday! :) I hope you have a great day, Skeezix! As we say in German: Alles Gute zum Geburtstag! :)

Photo Hunters: Plastic

PSHunt

Plastic

Many of the items that I use in my daily life are made of plastic. In this first photo, I am drinking from my water fountain, which is made of plastic. The mat that it lies on is also plastic.

In this next photo, I am playing with my trackball. It is a fun toy! I love to bat the ball around and around the track. It is also made of plastic. You can also see my black and orange tunnel in the photo too. It is a great toy too. If you'd like, you can watch a video of me in action, playing with my trackball and tunnel.

Frootbat Friday & A Meme

This photo is a little unusual for me, because my tail isn't wrapped around my paws the way it usually is! The sun was out yesterday, so I was able to enjoy some warm sunshine.

Dragonheart(Click photo to view a larger image)

I've been tagged by Kelly Cat for a Meme. Here are the rules:

1. Link to your tagger and post these rules
2. Write some facts about yourself: some random, some weird, some just plain fun.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post and list their names (linking to them)
4. Let those 7 people know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment at their blogs.

The challenge is to keep it interesting without making the reader think “Um, too much information…”

  • I'm very particular when it comes to eating stinky goodness. My stinky goodness has to be REAL meat (chicken or fish), that flakes, like real chicken or fish a human can eat. I dispise pâté-style stinky goodness (it's just processed mush to me) and anything with gravy (more processed gunk). Fortunately, my humans feed me Almo Nature, which is 100% organic, hormone-free, antibiotic-free, human grade meat and 100% ocean caught fish. Then it's cooked with 100% organic rice and water, and that's it. My humans say it looks and smells just liked canned chicken or fish they would eat.

  • Another eating tidbit: I have what my humans call "an expensive tummy." On occasion, they've tried feeding me other types of stinky goodness (less expensive, as the Almo Nature is one Euro per can), and I just throw it right back up.

  • I like to drink from the TOP of my water fountain, where the water comes out.

  • I love feathers! Any toy that has feathers on it is quickly destroyed. So the Whirlybird is naturally one of my favourite toys.

  • When the sun isn't shining (and so there's no sun to lie in), I love to burrow. I'll burrow under the covers, in my sleeping bag, in the fleece blanket on my human's lap - anywhere that I can get under or into cover.

  • I sadly seem to no longer be affected by catnip. I hope it's just a phase. I used to roll around in it and get hyper, but now it has no effect on me. :( My mom even bought some fresh "premium" dried catnip for me, and it has no effect. Oh well.

  • Like most Sphynx, I LOVE people. I love cuddling with humans and I love meeting new people. When we have visitors, I will come and sit next to them, or on them if they'll let me. I love being stroked and I purr easily when someone pets me. I am just a furless bundle of love. :)

  • I LOVE to play. If I want to play with one of my wand toys that is kept in my toy chest, I'll scratch at the chest to let my humans know I want to play with a wand toy. If I want to play with the red dot laser mouse, I will knock the mouse off of the desk or table, to let my humans know I want to chase the red dot. (Yes, I'm smart - I know the red dot comes from the laser pointer shaped like a mousie.
