Tiny

In honour of my first birthday, which was on Wednesday (you can see the gifts I received here) I bring you some photos of me as a tiny kitten! In the first photo, you can tell that I'm very, very young and tiny, because my eyes are still blue! All kittens are born with blue eyes, and their true eye colour only develops later - in my case, to green! Kitten photos courtesy of my breeder, Hair'N'Skin. And yes, Sphynx kittens have lots and lots of wrinkles. We tend to become less wrinkled as we grow out of kittenhood, but wrinkled skin is desirable in adults (especially in show and breeding cats), particularly around the muzzle, between the ears, and around the shoulders.

Just a reminder: I know I don't look like other cats, but please, if you don't have anything nice to say, please don't leave a comment.

Fashion Friday

My good friend, Jeter Harris, has been trying to send me a Yankees baseball cap for the longest time. For whatever reason, this cap has been on quite the adventure.

First off, I gave Jeter my German mail address. No problems, I thought, it's a small ball cap for a cat, it will make it through customs without any problems. After all, it's not food, or catnip, or something like that. (By the way, both Temptations and catnip have made it through customs, to my great surprise and delight!) Nope, for some strange reason, the German post system returned the cap to Jeter. :(

Then, after the cap had been returned, I gave Jeter my Canadian address. Unlike the U.S. Military, the Canadian Forces does not have an APO system. :( So we can't receive parcels, packages and the like through our Canadian address. However, we can receive letters, cards and magazines through the Canadian Forces address, and since the cap was no thicker than a magazine when packaged, I gave that address to Jeter for the cap.

Well, it took what seemed like forever, but finally my cap arrived! Thank you Jeter Harris! :) And thank you for persevering through all the postal hassles. Other than being a little big for me, the cap is great! I love it! Thanks again, JH. :)

Thursday Thirteen: First Birthday Gifts!

Yesterday was my first birthday! I received a lot of wonderful gifts, and many wonderful greetings from my friends all over the world.

# 27 - 13 gifts that I received for my First Birthday

1. A new blog design!

2. A water fountain

3. A long rustle tunnel with cool side tunnels

4. Yummy cat milk

5. & 6. Catnip feather ball and loop

7. A catnip bear that makes a rattling sound

8. A replacement fleece & feather wand toy (I've already destroyed two)

9. A Cozy Calming Mat, that has a buckwheat insert in the middle that can be removed and microwaved for warmth (or as the Peach Man called it, a crazy-colour keep you warm thingie!)

10. & 11. Chilly kitty chews (these would have been more useful 8 months ago, when I was teething, but they are still colourful and fun to play with)

12. "Egypt" fish and feather wand toy

13. Feline Greenies Ocean Fish Flavour treats

And, of course, I also received lots of cuddles, love and attention from my humans, especially when we played with my new toys.

Birthday Gifts & A Birthday Contest!

Here are some photos of me enjoying two of my birthday gifts: a new tunnel, that is longer than my current one and that has cool side tunnels; and a drinking fountain! I really like both of these!

Now, for the exciting news: my birthday contest is going to be a Scavenger Hunt! Every day for the next week, at random times, I am going to post an item or a list of several items on my blog. If you want to participate in the contest, you need to find the item(s) and post them to your blog at the end of the contest! The items may be tidbits of information or photos I've posted to my blog, they may be tidbits of information you need to find on the web, or they may be something you have to create! (Don't worry, none of the items you need to create will require technical knowledge or photo editing software, unless you choose to use such for creating your item.) At the end of the contest, you need to post all of the items on your blog in one post. The last item to be collected will be posted on my blog on July 25, 2007, and you will have until July 29, 2007 to make your blog post with all the items.

There will be several prizes awarded at the end of the contest. One prize will be for the cat(s) that find the most number of the scavenger hunt items. If more than one cat finds all the items, there will be a draw to determine the winner. There will also be a prize for the most creative entry, as determined by myself and my humans. As I mentioned, some of the items will be something that you have to create, and so the creativity of these items, as well as the creativity shown in putting together the final post with all the items, will be judged. There will also be a random prize that will be determined by placing the names of all the contestants into a hat, and one name will be drawn at random. Other prizes may be awarded, depending on the number of entries, at the judges' discretion. If you do not wish to receive a prize (for example, if you do not want to provide me with your snail mail address) I will make a donation, whose value is equal to that of the prize, to the charity of your choice.

This contest is open to all cats with a blog.

I reserve the right to change the rules of the contest at any time.

If you have any questions about the contest, please feel free to ask!

Today's item is the one that will require the most amount of effort and time, which is why I'm posting it first.

The Sphynx breed was so-named because we hairless cats reminded a cat show judge of cat statues he had seen in Egypt. What do you think of when you her the word "Sphynx"? Create an item that reflects this interpretation. It can be a poem (limerick, Haiku, or other form), a photo/image/graphic (just make sure you have permission to use it), a song, or any other creative art form. (Feel free to make a separate post for this item on your blog, and simply provide a link to it, if you wish, in your final post with all the items.)

My First Birthday!

I am so excited! Today is my first birthday! I am leaving kittenhood behind and becoming a Mancat.

Outdoor Adventure

This weekend the weather has been hot, humid, and sunny here in Munich. With the weather so beautiful, I was meowing to be let outside. So my humans put on my harness and took me out into our small Garten (yard). Since it was very hot and sunny, they put my tent outside so I would have some shade.

I love lying in the sun - the warmth of the skin feels wonderful on my bare skin. In these two photos, I really like the way my shadow looks. You can really see my "frootbat" ears in these shadows.

Frootbat Friday & Awards

This is my last Frootbat Friday as a kitten, although I still feel like a kitten. I love to romp and play and have lots of fun.

My dear friends Princess and Caesar presented me with the Blogging Community Involvement Award. Thank you very much Caesar and Prinnie! I am honoured!

So what is "the power of schmooze?"

“As it goes, schmoozing is the natural ability 'to converse casually, especially in order to gain an advantage or make a social connection.' Good schmoozers effortlessly weave their way in and out of the blogosphere, leaving friendly trails and smiles, happily making new friends along the way. They don’t limit their visits to only the rich and successful, but spend some time to say hello to new blogs as well. They are the ones who engage others in meaningful conversations, refusing to let it end at a mere hello - all the while fostering a sense of closeness and friendship."

Each recipient is to post the badge on their site with a link to their post and bestow the award upon five other bloggers. There are so many wonderful bloggers out there, that this is a hard decision to make. Here are my choices:

Kattonic Cats: Zippy, Sadie and Speedy: They are three wonderful cats who are always visiting other blogs and leaving nice comments.
Miss Peach: Miss Peach is a real lady and always has a kind and caring message for those she visits.
Kaze: A fellow Frootbat, Kaze always has a kind word for others. She's also the only cat I know who likes playing even more than I do!

I was also presented with the Caring Cat Blogger Award! This award is for cats who demonstrate caring and compassion for others. I am very touched and honoured to receive this award.

I would like to present this award in turn to Caesar and Princess. These two Cornish Rex kitties are very kind and caring, and always have something thoughtful to say. They are wonderful friends and their posts and comments are always a delight to read. Although they are both dealing with CRF, they are still positive cats, with a wonderful outlook on life. I am very honoured to have them as friends.
