Cats on Tuesday
Last Friday, the weather was beautiful here in Munich. It was warm and sunny and felt very much like a spring day. The temperature was between 12 and 15°C so it was nice and warm. Due to this warm weather, my humans let me explore outside in my harness.
I explored our patio, checking out all the interesting scents, walked on the grass, and checked out the fences between our yard and our neighbours' yards. It was very exciting! I hope to go outside again sometime soon (always on my harness and leash, of course.)
In other news, my "papers" arrived yesterday - my registration and pedigree! My registered name is HairNSkin Dragonheart, since my breeder's cattery is called HairNSkin. And guess what? Did you know that I'm a descendant of a Jedi Knight? Yep! My sire is Champion HairNSkin Obi Wan Kenobi! Isn't that exciting? I wonder if I'll start demonstrating any Jedi abilities? I think that would be very cool!
Don't forget to VOTE FOR ME for Mr. Litterbox 2007. Thanks!

Movie Monday
My mom featured this video on her blog last week, for Cats on Tuesday, so some of you will have seen it before. For everyone else who hasn't seen it yet, I wanted to feature it this week for Movie Monday.
My mom and dad are training for a marathon, which means that they run really far. They drink a lot of Gatorade and Powerade during their training. I don't know what those are, but I do know that the bottles have clear plastic tops that are lots of fun to play with! So here I am, playing hockey with the clear plastic bottle tops.

Here I am curled up in my very soft sleeping bag. It's one of my favourite places to sleep. It's nice and warm, and soft and cozy. My skin is also very soft to the touch. My mom says it feels like a warm chamois.Join the blogroll. Visit participants.

A Lesson in Sphynx Toes & Claws
In response to the photo I posted yesterday, my friend Daisy asked: "Dragonheart, I don't know why but I am getting fixated on yer paws. They are so unique looking. Do the nails always show like that,or can you retract them all the way in?"

Daisy, after careful examination of my paws, my humans and I have come to this conclusion: When properly trimmed, the claws on my front paws fully retract into their sheaths, with the exception of my dew claws - they seem to stick out a bit. As for my hind paws, the two toes in the middle seem to be able to fully sheathe their claws, but the other two seem to stick out a little bit.

Despite the fact that a couple of my claws are never fulled sheathed, I still walk silently, creeping around very quietly, not making a noise. This is due to the fact that I have very thick paw pads. Some people say that Sphyhnx look like they are walking on air cushions because of these thick paw pads.
Daisy, I hope that answers your question!

Mr. Litterbox Competition

Zeus is hosting the Mr. Litterbox 2007 competition. This is my entry into the competition, in the evening wear category.
My dad is an officer in the Canadian Forces, and he let me borrow his "Mess Kit" to have my photo taken for the competition. An officer's "Mess Kit" or "Mess Dress" is considered formal wear and is equivalent to a civilian tuxedo. For example, my dad wore his Mess Kit when he and my mom were married. If you are interested, you can check out photos of their wedding here.
My dad's Mess Kit is that of an army officer, with some details of the uniform indicating that he is an engineer (the small beavers on the lapel, for instance), and some details indicating his rank of Major (the gold braid on the sleeves and the rank epaulets.)

Tuesday Tongues and Toes
(Click photo for a larger image)Here I demonstrate the proper technique for cleaning Sphynx toes. This photo also gives you a nice view of my tongue and my teeth. In this photo, my toes and claws are fairly clean, as my mom had recently cleaned them. As I've mentioned before, wax builds up on my toes and claws due to the fact that I have no fur. My skin secretes oils, and since I have no fur for the oil to be distributed through, the oil builds up, attracts dirt, and forms a waxy substance.
In other news, I overhead my humans talking. They have been in contact with my breeder and plan on having another Sphynx join our family! My breeder is hoping that my half-sister will have a litter in the spring, and my mom and dad can have a kitten from that litter. Since the kitten won't be able to leave my breeder until he or she is about 4 months old, it will be a while before I'll have a new brother or sister (although technically, I guess I would be the kitten's half-uncle!)
I'm not sure how I feel about this development. In some ways, I like being an only cat. The humans' laps are always available for my enjoyment, I have my choice of sleeping spots in the humans' bed, the toys are all mine, and when I want to play, my humans happily play with me. Once another cat joins our family, I'll have to share all of these things! On the other hand, I'll have another cat to play with, wrestle with, and snuggle with when the humans aren't around. So I guess it will be okay. At any rate, I don't have to worry about that for several months to come.

Studying on Sunday
Here I am, helping mom study. She's taking "Anatomy and Physiology" because she's working on a Masters degree in physiotherapy.

What do you mean, you can't study when I'm sitting on your book? I'm trying to point out the important passages! Silly mommy.

Besides, your desk lamp gives off a lot of heat. I'm nice and warm sitting here!

Where's your pen? That's lots of fun to play with! No? Fine then, I'll get down. Some people just don't appreciate a bit of help!

Antique
From Merriam-Webster Online:
1 : existing since or belonging to earlier times : ANCIENT <antique trade routes to the Orient>
2 a : being in the style or fashion of former times <antique manners and graces> b : made in or representative of the work of an earlier period <antique mirrors>; also : being an antique
Neuschwanstein Castle
I haven't visited this castle, but my humans have. My dad took this photo from the Marienbrücke, a bridge over one of the gorges surrounding the castle, from which you have a stunning view of the castle. It is located here in Bavaria, and was built by "mad" King Ludwig II. When King Ludwig died in 1886, the castle still hadn't been completed, but it certainly belongs to "earlier times" and since King Ludwig wanted his castle to be built in the "authentic style of the old German knights' castles" it is also in the style or fashion of former times. You can read more about Neuschwanstein Castle here.

Frootbat Friday
(Click photo for a larger image)My mom took this photo of me relaxing in the sun in the Chalet in Switzerland. She really likes this photo. Here's another photo she took at the same time:

Yesterday many of you asked about the furry thing on the wall of the chalet we stayed at in Switzerland. I honestly have no idea what it was and neither do my humans, although I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Vishus Deer. We were just renting the chalet for the week so it was already there when we arrived. It certainly smelled very interesting! When I stood on the back of the couch, I was able to reach up along the wall and smell the strange skin. Here's the picture for those of you who didn't see it yesterday:

Cats on Tuesday
Me and my humans were in Switzerland last week, in a place called Château d'Oex. You can read all about our trip here. Today, I am sharing some photos of myself playing in the chalet in Switzerland. My humans brought along some of my favourite toys so that I would have something to play with. I had a great time in Switzerland but I am also happy to be home.If you are having trouble viewing the slideshow, you can check out the photos themselves:

My Trip to Switzerland
So last Saturday morning my humans and I left for Switzerland. My mom put my harness on me, and then put me in the travel box. Then we walked out to the bigger moving box on wheels, that my humans call a car. I wasn't happy to be in my travel box, but once we were in the car, my mom let me out of the box and sat with me in the back seat. Since I had my harness on, she let me explore the entire back of the car. She wouldn't let me up front where dad was though, since she said he needed to concentrate because he was driving. My mom showed me that I had food, water and a small litter box in the back seat.
After thoroughly exploring the back of the car, I spent the first part of the trip curled up on mom's lap. We stopped a couple of times, and mom made sure I saw my food, water and litter box, but I didn't want to eat, drink or use the litter box. When we stopped, either mom or dad always stayed in the car with me. They even ate lunch in the car to be with me! After a while, I climbed up onto the back of the seat behind mom, and curled up there. My mom put my fleece on top of me so I would stay warm.
After a long while, my mom put me back in the travel box and carried me up a whole bunch of stairs. At the top of the stairs we entered into a new place, that mom and dad said was our chalet in Switzerland. My mom let me out of the box, showed me my water, food and litter box, and then I explored. I had to investigate the entire chalet, poking into every corner and crevice, and exploring under, on, and over all of the furniture.

That first evening, and every evening afterwards, my humans made something they called a fire in the fireplace. The fire was wonderful! It was very beautiful, with all kinds of pretty colours: oranges, yellows, reds and even blues, all constantly moving! I was fascinated! And best of all, the fire gave off a lot of heat. The warmth felt really good on my skin. The fireplace was my favourite part of the chalet.
Saturday evening, and all day Sunday, my humans stayed in the chalet with me. They didn't want to leave me alone, since I was in such a new place. That was very nice of them. The chalet had one room with two tiny beds that we didn't spend much time in. I heard my humans say that it would confuse me if they slept in separate beds, since I wouldn't be able to curl up between them. So in the room with the fireplace, they took the couch and turned it into a bed! That was really neat - it unfolded into a very comfortable bed, and that's where we all slept for the week.
The chalet was very nice, although it was smaller than our place in Munich, and my litter box was much too small. I tried to tell my humans that I needed a bigger box. I would jump in, dig a bit, squat but do nothing, and repeat this several times. Finally, when I didn't have any other choice, I dug and dug and dug and dug and then finally did my business. I wasn't happy with this small litter box though.
On Monday my humans left the chalet for a few hours. They walked all the way down the HUGE hill to the valley to buy some groceries, and then walked all the way back up! That was a really long way.
On Tuesday my humans said they went out for a run, and on Wednesday they went horseback riding. My mom and dad said that they were very happy that they didn't ski, since all of the ski runs in the valley where we were staying were closed due to the lack of snow. But the weather was perfect for my humans, since they love to run and had to get a few runs in while we were in Switzerland since they are training for something called a marathon, which is running a really long way. The weather was so nice that one day, when it was +15°C, they let me out on the balcony in my harness.
The view from the balcony was wonderful! We could see all kinds of mountains, and look down into the valley below us.
My humans spent a lot of time relaxing in the chalet with me. I was very happy to have them there. I enjoyed lying in the sun, or looking out of the windows, checking out all that was happening outside.
On Thursday my humans went running again. Then on Friday they went paragliding. My dad said that meant they were flying like birdies! I would have liked to have seen that. I stayed in the chalet, and kept an eye on the place for them.
On Saturday my humans packed up, put me in my harness and then in my travel box, and we drove back to Munich. Like on the way to Switzerland, I spent part of the trip perched on the seat behind my mom, and part of the trip asleep in her lap. I was happy to arrive home, and when my mom brought me in the house, I went straight to my litter box, my nice, large, familiar litter box!
My humans were very happy with my behaviour during the trip. I was very good in the car, since I spent most of the time sleeping, and I had fun in the chalet (except for the tiny litter box). I hope I can travel with them again in the future.
You can check out some more photos from our trip by clicking on either one of the small photos below. The first set of photos are of me in Switzerland, and the second set are of everything else concerning our trip. You can also click on any of the photos above to see a larger image.
