Thoughts on Thursday

Thanks to everyone for their wonderful and caring thoughts yesterday, and for your continued purrs, prayers, and support.

Devi's skin swabs came back negative, so the next steps are a skin biopsy next Friday and a trial of a hypoallergenic diet.  Hopefully the diet transition will go smoothly, and we will all like the new food.  Unfortunately, because Devi does not like being restrained, she will have to be sedated for the biopsy.

Dragonheart has a consult with the oncology department at the nearby veterinary college in August.  Although the pathology on his mass came back as benign, the oral surgeons at the small animal cancer centre are the ones with the knowledge and skill to aggressively excise the mass so it hopefully does not return.  In the meantime Dragonheart is on painkillers to deal with the discomfort from the mass.  (Oh, since we had a question about it:  the tooth that was causing the pain in the first place, and that was exposed, was extracted back in May when Dragonheart had his dental).

Here are some more photos of Dragonheart at the vet yesterday.

My tail is sticking out of the hole in the tunnel!

You can see our vet is AAHA accredited!
There are fishies at our vet!

Now on to the winners of Dragonheart's birthday contest!  Identifying the Dragonheart photos was clearly difficult!  It is also clear that having nekkids helps, as King Punapippuri of Pikku Punapippuri did the best job at identifying the correct photos.  He (and the rest of his clowder) win a digital scrapbook page made by our mom with their photos, both a 12 by 12 inch suitable for printing, and a 600 pixel page for web display.

Below you can find which photo belongs to which Sphynx.  No surprise that pretty much everyone knew that L belonged to Dragonheart, but the remainder were tricky!  You can also see from these photos that we aren't totally hairless - we have a little bit of fuzz (although Merlin has very, very little, and Devi has quite a bit, for a Sphynx at least).  We hope you had fun trying to guess who was who!  Thanks to everyone who played along!

Toesday Reveal!

Thanks to everyone who participated in our Toesday contest!  We have two winners:  Trout Talkin' Tabbies and The Island Cats!  Both correctly identified the toes as belonging to: 1. Merlin, 2. Devi, and 3. Dragonheart.  Congratulations!

They both win a digital scrapbook page made by our mom!   Please email us  to claim your prize!  You can use the Email Us button at the top of our blog.

To recap whose toes are whose, we've included them below, along with the identifying name. You can click on any of the photos to view them larger.
1 - Merlin

2 - Devi

3 - Dragonheart
So which ones did you guess correctly?  Lots of people knew that #2 was Devi, but the boys' toes were tougher to identify.  Thanks again to everyone who made a guess! We hope you learned something about Sphynx toes!

Toesday: Guess Whose Toes!

Hello everyone!

Today we have a contest for all of you!  Can you guess which toes belong to which Sphynx?  We will have a prize for those who guess correctly!

Did you know that Sphynx toes are special?  We Sphynx frequently use our toes like fingers, catching and grabbing things with our toes.  According to the Cat Fanciers' Association Sphynx breed standard: "Paws are oval with well-knuckled toes; five in front and four behind. The paw pads are thick, giving the appearance of walking on cushions."  The TICA breed standard for Sphynx is similar: "Feet: Medium in size, oval shape with long, slender toes. The paw pads are thicker than in other breeds, giving the cat the appearance of walking on "air cushions". The toes are very long, slender and prominent."

Sphynx paws are also described as webbed, something you can see a bit more easily in this old photo of Dragonheart as a kitten, even though it's a bit blurry, or in the photo of Devi playing below it:

Our toes do need to be cleaned regularly.  Because we have no fur for oil to distribute itself through, oil builds up on our paws, toes, and claws, just like it does on the rest of our skin.  Our claws, in particular, accumulate "black gunk" which is basically oil combined with dust, litter dust,

Good luck guessing whose toes are whose!  Let us know in the comments.  And did you learn anything about Sphynx toes, or did you already know all that?

Frootbat Friday

Best Static ValentineDragonheart: We had a fabulous time yesterday! The Valentine's Day cruise was wonderful, and it was great to chat with a bunch of wonderful cats! Thanks to everyone who left comments on our Valentines in Skeezix' Valentine's Day contest! Merlin and I ended up sharing the prize for best static Valentine! So thanks to the judges and to everyone who left a comment! Congratulations to all the winners and participants!

In the photo below, I am having lots of fun playing with my catnip cigar! It's a lot of fun to bunny-kick it!

Dragonheart

Merlin: Well, being "fixed" hasn't slowed me down at all, so far! I'm still a crazy, active, playful kitten, with tons of energy! I was chewing on my stitches the other day (hey, they were itchy!) but my mom put a stop to that, and now they'll dissolved and fallen out on their own. The tiny incision is still healing, but it's almost completely closed. Thanks to everyone who sent me their purrs and good thought.

I still purr up a storm, purring if someone even approaches me. What can I say? I love to purr! When I'm not playing, running through the house, or trying to steal trash, I love to cuddle with my mom, my dad, or Dragonheart. In the photo below, I am attacking the whiskers on our cat tent. Whiskers intrigue me, since I don't have any! You can also see the delicate shading of colour on my ears in the photo.

Fine Frootbats on Friday & An Award

Here we are both enjoying the sun. This photo was taken yesterday, and you can see how green the grass in our Garten is, and it hasn't been maintained at all (both of our humans have Black thumbs, and tend to kill all plants, so the only maintenance they do is mowing the lawn with a pushmower in the summer)! We are loving the mild winter that Munich has been having!

You already have traditions, foods, and special things you bring out every year.

Finally, my new blog name!

I still haven't decided on what the name will be. Dragonheart's Domain is nice, but that wouldn't be fair to my little brother, and we will definitely have to share a blog because, with her studies, my mom doesn't have time to be the typist for more than one blog. The three names I like the best are:
  1. The Riddle of the Sphynx
  2. The Naked Truth (although as many said, I might get some unwelcome visitors with that name!)
  3. Chats Aux Magic (magic cats, and a play of words, since a château is a castle) / Chat Aux Sphynx

So, congratulations to Diamond Emerald Eyes; Zippy, Sadie & Speedy; and Ramses, for suggesting these names! Please send your address to dragonheart DOT sphynx AT gmail DOT com so I can send you your prizes!

Frootbat Fashion Friday

It is perfectly acceptable to wear your toys as a fashion accessory.

Dragonheart(Click photo to view a larger image)

Today is your last day to suggest a new name for my blog! My little brother and I will have to share a blog, so although the blog address will be staying the same, the name of the blog will change. My little brother doesn't have a name yet. His breeder will name him. If we don't like the name the breeder gives him, we'll come up with a different daily use name for him. Right now, we are thinking of using either Merlin or Yoda, whichever one will suit him better. But we may like his registered name! My registered name, after all, is HairNSkin Dragonheart (HairNSkin is the name of my breeder) and Dragonheart suits me perfectly. You have until midnight EST tonight to suggest a new blog name.

Also, if anyone would like to receive a Christmas or holiday card from me, please send your address to Dragonheart DOT Sphynx AT gmail DOT com

Thanks!

Mancat Monday: Gotcha Day Gifts & A Contest!

Dragonheart and his catnip bananaThanks to everyone who left me a message yesterday for my first Gotcha Day and Blogaversary! It's been wonderful getting to know all the wonderful blogging cats (and woofies, and other animals) over the course of the past year.

Dragonheart with his colourful worm toyI spent a wonderful day with my humans yesterday. I spent a lot of time curled up either on my mom or my dad's lap, except when my mom went out for her long run.

My humans gave me my Gotcha Day presents, which are wonderful! To the left, you can see me checking out my catnip banana! It smells wonderful and is a lot of fun to play with.

To the right, you can see me sniffing my new colourful organic worm toy, filled with valerian! I was certainly intrigued by the smell. I was even salivating over the scent! The manufacturer says that valerian is an alternative to catnip, and it certainly had my interest!

Dragonheart's Advent CalendarFinally, I received a special Advent calendar, just for cats! So every day, from December 1st to 24th, I will get one treat from my Advent calendar! There are four different types of treats inside. Sadly, one of the treats is made with chicken, so I won't be able to eat those because of my food allergies, but my humans will set the chicken ones aside for my little brother to have when he joins our family. The other three types are okay for me to eat, though. In the photo to the left, you can also see my catnip banana and my colourful worm toy.

Dragonheart playing with his colourful wormI am looking forward to many more wonderful years with my humans, and many more years of blogging. My little brother will be blogging with me when he arrives, so although I will keep the same blog address, I will have to come up with a new blog name, since we will be sharing.

So, I am holding a contest to come up with a new name for my (and my little brother's) blog! We are both Sphynx, and I'm a tuxie (black and white) Sphynx, and my little brother is a Seal Point (coloured like a Siamese) Sphynx. If we like your name suggestion, you will receive a little thank you from the Siamese Rescue or the Animal Rescue site. So, leave your suggestions for a new blog name in the comments field of this post! You have until next Sunday (December 2nd) to leave your suggestions.
