Thursday Thirteen: The Birthday Edition

My first birthday is next week! In honour of that upcoming event, I bring you:

#26 - 13 Things About My Birthday

1. I was born on July 18, 2006.
   
   
2. So I turn one year old next Wednesday!
   
   
3. I was born at a small Sphynx cattery, Hair'N'Skin, near Frankfurt, Germany.
   
   
4. My dam was New Taj Mahal Sherazade of HairNSkin, a blue point Sphynx.
   
   
5. My sire wass Champion HairNSkin Obi Wan Kenobi, a brown classic tabby and white Sphynx.
   
   
6. My litter had two kittens in it: myself, and my brother Merlin.
   
   
7. My breeder gives each of her litters themes, and the theme for my litter was "Fairy Tales"
   
   
8. I came to live with my humans when I was just over 4 months old, on November 25, 2006.
   
   
9. Next Wednesday I will be celebrating my birthday at home with my humans.
   
   
10. Some of the gifts I hope to receive include some new feather toys, some new wand toys, and some yummy treats. I also have a wishlist if anyone needs any ideas. (Okay, stupid google wishlist isn't working, but I really listed it just as a joke, so that's okay. My email address is in the top left column of my blog if anyone wants to send me an e-birthday card though!)
    
    
11. I've already received some birthday greetings (and gifts) in the mail from some of my friends all over the world!
    
    
12. My human dad thinks it's a little silly to celebrate my birthday, but my human mom thinks it is exciting!
    
    
13. I hope all of my friends will visit my blog next Wednesday for a birthday party and a contest!

Cats on Tuesday: Prize Pack!

As I mentioned yesterday, I received a lot of wonderful mail from various friends last week! One of the packages was from Mr. Chen & Ollie, for winning their 100th post contest! All the goodies they sent me are absolutely wonderful, and I've been having lots of fun with them, as you can see in the slideshow below. Thank you again Mr. Chen & Ollie! I love all of my prizes!

Monday Mail!

I've been a very lucky cat, recently, and I've received a lot of mail from some of my wonderful friends. A couple of these packages have been for winning or participating in contests, but with my birthday coming up, it's been fun to pretent that they are birthday presents!

First off, I received a wonderful collection of sparkle balls and other ball toys from Junior, for participating in his contest. These toys are so much fun to play with! The sparkle balls are great, and I love the little blue balls that make noise when they roll across the floor. They are a lot of fun to chase! Thank you so much Junior!


Next, I received a fabulous prize pack from Mr. Chen & Ollie for winning their 100th post contest! I was amazed to see that the Temptations made it through customs!!! I guess a package marked "cat toys" wasn't as much interest to them. So now I have finally tried Temptations! They are yummy, just like many of my other treats are yummy! I also have lots of fun playing with the feather flip balls (I love feathers) and with the fishing glove! Thank you so much Mr. Chen & Ollie! What a fabulous prize pack!


Last, but not least, the wonderful Miss Peach sent me and my mom these beautiful ATC (art trading cards). Miss Peach is very talented, isn't she? Aren't they lovely! The onf of me is a birthday present for me, and the one of the Meezer is for my mom - it's the one who came before me, Whiskers. Thank you so veyr much, Miss Peach! They are beautiful and we love them!



Thank you very much, Junior, Mr. Chen, Ollie, and Miss Peach! It is wonderful receiving mail from my friends. You are all very generous and I thank you sincerely for these wonderful gifts!

Sunday Meme

I was tagged to answer the questions in this meme by Imma (Alice) at I Was Born2Cree8 and Michael of Valtool's Box.

What were you doing 10 years ago?
Since I'm not yet a year old, I wasn't alive 10 years ago! As for my humans, my mom had just graduated at the top of her class with an engineering degree from the University of Guelph (B.Sc.Eng in Biological Engineering) and my dad had just returned from being deployed for the Winnipeg Floods.

What were you doing 1 year ago?
Again, I wasn't born yet! I was still growing in my mommy's tummy. She was very pregnant at this point. As for my humans, they were living in a hotel in Ottawa. All of their household goods had been packed up, and were on their way to Germany. While waiting for their stuff to make it to Munich, they were living in hotels.

Five snacks you enjoy:

1. Feline Greenies (especially Salmon Flavour)
2. Katzentabs treats
3. ZiwiPeak "Good Cat" Lamb Jerky treats
4. Milk left in the bottom of my humans' cereal bowls (no, it doesn't bother my tummy)
5. Vanilla ice cream in the bottom of the bowl
   

Five songs to which you know all the lyrics:

I'm a cat, so I don't know the lyrics to any songs. My humans, however, know the lyrics to a lot of Billy Joel and Beatles songs, and my mom knows a lot of hymns from singing in Church choir.

Five things you would do if you were a millionaire:

1. Set up a wonderful no-kill shelter for all the animals that don't have Forever Homes where the animals would be well looked after and cared for.
2. Buy my human mom a horse.
3. Buy my human dad all the comic books he wants.
4. Buy myself a very luxurious cat condo.
5. Adopt all the Sphynx who don't have wonderful Forever Homes.
   

Five bad habits:

1. Waking up my dad too early in the morning, before breakfast time.
2. Sticking my bum in my humans' faces when they are lying in bed.
3. Eating crunchies too quickly and then throwing them back up.
4. Snoring.
5. Climbing high up on things where I'm not allowed.
   

Five things you like doing:

1. Cuddling
2. Playing
3. Purring
4. Lying in the sun
5. Eating
   

Five things you would never wear again:

As a cat, I don't have a lot of clothes. I don't mind wearing clothes, but clothes for dogs and cats are very expensive here in Germany. I do have some sweaters that I like to wear in the winter, when it's cold. Basically, anything that isn't comfortable, or that no longer fits me, is something that I won't ever wear again.

Five favourite toys:

1. Clear plastic bottle tops off of Gatorade or Powerade bottles.
2. Whirlybird toy
3. Red dot (laser pointer)
4. Wand toys (like the Cat Charmer)
5. Anything with feathers!

Fake

I'm an indoor-only cat. I have to be, due to my lack of fur, but it's also safer that way. There are too many dangers outside and too great a chance of being seriously injured. So, being an indoor-only cat, I have never seen a real mouse. I do, however, love to play with fake (toy) mousies, especially ones with feather-tails and ones that squeak! So here are two photos of me playing with one of my fake mice.

• Luxor. Luxor is a good friend who always leaves kind and thoughful comments. He also has the most gorgeous photos on his blog. To top it all off, he has a very cool Egyptian name! (My mom is fascinated by all things related to ancient Egypt.)
  
• Jeter Harris. A cat with a great sense of humour who always makes me laugh. He is also very generous and caring.
• Latte. Latte is a gorgeous Siamese who reminds my mom of the one who came before me, Whiskers. Latte, and his two siblings, Kaze and Chase, are kind, caring, generous cats. They always leave thoughtful comments.
• Skeezix. Skeezix is the ultimate cat blogger, the one who inspired many of us to begin blogging. He is incredibly generous, helping out those in need with his contests and other events, and his contest prizes are wonderful! Despite his fondness for the colour pink, he is still a Rockin' Boy Blogger.

Thursday Thirteen: Berlin

As many of you know, last weekend my humans were in Berlin, where they attended the Canada Day celebrations at the Canadian Embassy there. They also saw a lot of the city. Yesterday I showed you several photos from Berlin's Egyptian Museum. Today I present some photos from the rest of their trip.

*Note that the Berlin Wall (what is left of it) is now a protected historical site. But in the early days, when the wall first came down, it wasn't protected, and so much of the wall was taken away by souvenir hunters. There are some sections of wall preserved and on display in different areas of the city now (as you can see below - my humans are the two on the far right), but the only stretch of wall that it still in its original location is a 1.5 km length, part of which is shown in one of the photos in the slideshow.

Cats on Tuesday: Mail for Me!

Yesterday, some mail arrived for me! It was a prize pack and birthday gift from Latte, Kaze and Chase! Latte held a contest that I was fortuante enough to win! Latte's mom made the wonderful, soft green blanket in the photos below, as a prize for winning the contest, Kaze included some sparkle balls for my birthday (coming up soon on July 18th!), and Kaze, Latte and Chase all wished me a very happy birthday. The blanket that Latte's mom made is very soft and feels wonderful! Latte suggested using it in my stroller, which I think is a fabulous idea. Thank you so much, Latte, Kaze and Chase!

Kaze has her toy closet, and I have my toy chest. My humans store most of my toys, including my wand toys, in a hope chest. In this video, I am telling my humans that I want to play!

Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day!

140 years ago, on July 1st, Canada became a country! Today, Canadians across the country and all around the world celebrate Canada's National Holiday.

As Wikipedia says:

Canada Day (French: Fête du Canada) is Canada's national holiday, marking the establishment of Canada as a Dominion on July 1, 1867. It is a federal holiday celebrated on July 1, annually, by all provincial governments and most businesses across the country.

A day off from work, Canada Day is often a time for outdoor activities in the early Canadian summer. It is also Canada's main patriotic holiday and often referred to as "Canada's birthday", particularly in the popular press.

While it is the date upon which the present Canadian Constitution first came into effect, the first day of July does not commemorate a clear-cut date of "independence" or "founding". Instead, it commemorates the beginning of the establishment of the Canadian confederation through the 1867 British North America Act. The British Parliament still retained several political controls over Canada after 1867, and the country still lacked many of its modern provinces. The date represents the biggest step in the establishment of Canada as a self-governing country, and the beginning of a gradual march towards full independence from Britain, attained with the proclamation of the Constitution Act by Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, in 1982.

If you can't be in Ottawa for the huge Canada Day celebrations throughout the capital city and on Parliament Hill, you can check out the webcast, broadcast by CBC. The show begins at noon (EDT). The Canada Day evening show on Parliament Hill will also be broadcast, on Rogers TV.

If you are in Ottawa, check out all the activities going on in the National Capital Region. For the past three years, while living in Ottawa, my humans participated in the HBC Run For Canada, a 10K race.

I invite all of my friends to join me in celebrating Canada Day with these traditional Canadian foods:

Nanaimo Bars (only for the humans, as these contain chocolate)

Beaver Tails (fried pastry)

Poutine (french fries with gravy and cheese curds)

Tourtière (French Canadian Meat Pie)

Also on hand is some fresh BC Salmon and some northern Arctic Char.

I want to wish all of my fellow Canadians a very happy Canada Day!

Photo Hunters: Sweet

Sweet

I have three interpretations for sweet this week.

In the first photo, I am asleep in the sun on my Gizzy quilt. My humans think I look very sweet in this photo.


The next photo is of my mom last Sunday, after setting a Personal Best time for the half-marathon. She said it was a sweet run and that she experienced the sweet taste of victory. (No, she didn't win the race - she's much too slow for that - but it was a personal victory to set a PR (personal record) time in a half-marathon.)


And finally, a sweet treat. My humans, on their wedding day, feeding each other a piece of their yummy, sweet wedding cake. (The uniform my human dad is wearing in the photo is his Mess Kit - the formal uniform that Canadian army officers wear. It is the military equivalent of a civilian tuxedo.)

#24 - 13 Things I'll Be Doing While My Humans Are In Berlin

So my humans are off to spend the weekend in Berlin. They'll be back on Sunday. While they are gone, here are 13 things I'll be doing:

1. Sleeping alone in their bed at night, between their pillows.
   
   
2. Waiting anxiously for the cat sitter to come twice a day to feed me, change my water, clean my litter, cuddle with me, and play with me.
   
   
3. Playing with the new toys my humans gave me since they are leaving me.
   
   
4. Playing with the cat sitter when she comes.
   
   
5. Naping in my sleeping bag.
   
   
6. Lying in the sun on my Gizzy quilt.
   
   
7. Watching birdies.
   
   
8. Using my scratching post.
   
   
9. Siting on my cat tree and watch everything that's happening outside.
   
   
10. Playing in my tent and wish Stella was here to play Tent Wars.
    
    
11. Visiting my blogging friends less than I normally do, since it's harder for me to get on the computer when my humans aren't here.
    
    
12. Missing my humans.
    
    
13. Waiting eagerly for their return.
