I'm rare! Yep, Sphynx are still a rare breed, especially here in Germany. Up until recently, the German Protection of Animals Act prohibited the breeding of animals that were considered to be "deformed" and they considered breeds such as the Sphynx, Manx and Scottish Fold to be "deformed", just because we don't look like other cats! Which is absolutely ridiculous. We are not "deformed", we are the result of a naturally occurring genetic mutation. In Sphynx, hairlessness results from a mutation of the same gene that produces the curly hair in Devon Rex cats.
So Sphynx remain rare, especially here in Germany.

How strange is that?!?!?!? I always thought those were established breeds! Especially the Scottish Fold! I've seen them here at cat shows...I figured you guys would be way ahead of us!

Yes, Dragonheart, you ARE rare, and not just because of your breed. I don't know many other cats that can type and have their own blog. You are a rare and special kitty... purrrrfect in fact. Shadow (my kitty) says HI. His 16th birthday is April 29, so very soon.
I will bet that the breed will become less rare now that everyone can see what a wonderful breed the Sphynx is! You are a great spokescat for the breed.

I am not so sure if that was the case for whole Germany. Bavaria has a lot of different laws. (and the language !!)It has never forgotten that it had been a Kingdom before, lol !

We can't beleeve anyone wood be afraid to touch yoo. Mom pet a Sphynx at a kitty clinic at our local rescue and she coodent get enuff! She thinks yoo are beyootiful and gets daddy all in a fritter 'bout getting one. She won't, not 'cuz yoor not beyootiful, but acuz she has three of us and always takes in rescues. It seems no one who has a kitty like yoo effur lets them wander or abandons them!As Martha sez "that's a good thing".
