Whiskers went to the Rainbow Bridge (where all pets go to wait for their humans when they die) on September 1, 2006, just two months short of his 20th birthday. In honour of his memory, my mom commissioned this portrait by her very talented friend, Michelle Wiebe.
Whiskers acquired his name in a simple fashion: When my mom received him for her 15th birthday, he was missing the whiskers on one side of his face from wrestling with his brother. Not a very creative name for a cat, but one that suited him!
My mom still misses Whiskers on occasion. Often when she visit's Latte's blog, there are certain photos of Latte that remind her very much of Whiskers, and she gets teary-eyed. I try to cuddle with her and purr extra loud on these occasions. I know that there will always be a special place in her heart for Whiskers.
My humans and I are also praying and purring hard for Anatasia to come home safely.

Oh Whiskers is most beautiful. And wow what a great painting to have in memory. I think his name is wonderful. Half a furface of whiskers is ok by us!
It's fantastic your Mama had so many great years too.
We are sending purrs and scritches and loves too. HUGS
Wow, Whiskers is gorgeous. That is such a beautiful painting that your mom has to help keep his memory alive. Our mommy knows what your mommy is going through. The one who came before us, Bingo, went to the bridge almost one year ago this week. She will be taking over the blog to post about him this week. She still misses him terribly. Our mommies are lucky to have us now and we help ease the pain a little but we know the ones who come before will always have special places in their hearts.
Purrs,
Mr. Chen & Ollie
Hello Dragonheart,
Whiskers looks very beautiful. I am sure that your human misses him a lot. My female human always says that having a cat (or pet in general) is like having a child. It's good that you comfort her when she misses Whiskers a lot.
Love
Whiskers was certainly a beautiful cat. We love the idea of having a painting done to always see and remember.
Our Lady brought Willow home when Samantha, a cat who came before, had to go to the Bridge. That's how China Cat & Willow came to be best sister-cats - China was lonely after Samantha was gone.
Happy Sunday to you and your family!
Purrrrs, China Cat & Willow
I've always loved that beautiful painting of Whiskers. With Sept 1 approaching, I can understand why your mom is a bit wistful.
We are all purrin for Anastasia.

The story brought tears to my eyes. The painting is stunning, he was a magnificent creature.
Dragonheart, please go here for something special? Thank you.
Whiskers was a handsome cat. You are right, he does remind me a bit of Latte!
That snuggle is gorgeous.
That is a gorgeous painting of Whiskers - his personality really comes through. I'll bet your mom is really glad you're there for her now.
That is a lovely painting of Whiskers. No matter how much our Beans love us, they will never furrget the ones that came before, and that is how it should be.
what a beauty Whiskers was. your mommy's friend did a wonderful job with that painting.i think his name is great because it has a story.
it is hard on our beans when we go to the Bridge, so when they remember those who came before, we should give extra special snuggles to them. i'm sure you do great at that.
thanks for keeping me company while my beans were gone! we're purring and praying for anastasia too.
That is a beautiful painting of Whiskers, D. My momma still talks about her Meezer Lola a lot, too. She really liked looking at Whiskers. We're both praying for Anastasia to come home.
Your buddy, Jimmy Joe
Whiskers sounds like he was a lovely cat. Our mom had a pure white cat when she was a girl and white cats make her a bit sad too. He was a wonderful companion for a lonely little girl.
That is a gorgeous painting! His eyes are so brilliant. I'm sorry you mom misses him so much. You are very kind and loving to her.
Hugs...G
