Devi: Trip to the vet!

Hello everyone, I am Devi!  I came to live with Dragonheart and Merlin last February.  I am a five year old black and white spayed Sphynx.  I was born on April 28, 2010, so I will be six soon.  I have a lovely little "beauty mark" on my muzzle.  Isn't it pretty?  I'm also very humble. (Dragonheart: no you're not!)

I had to leave my old home because they said I was "too affectionate!"  Can you believe that?  How can you be too affectionate???  Anyhow, they had a new baby, and apparently I wouldn't leave the baby alone.  And when they tried to lock me out of the baby's room I would scratch at the door and meow all evening.  So they needed to rehome me.  Fortunately, my new mom and dad rescued me, and I came to live in a wonderful new home with my brothers Dragonheart and Merlin.

They are good brothers, but I had to quickly put them in their place and let them know I am in charge!  Merlin is fun to play with, but Dragonheart can be a bit of a grumpy old fart! (Dragonheart:  no I'm not!  I just need to preserve my energy for when you whack at me!)

So yesterday I had to go the vet for my annual check-up and vaccinations.  Here I am in my carrier, waiting patiently for the vet and the vet student.  We go to a primary care veterinary practice that is located in a veterinary college.  So we see a fourth year vet student who is doing their rotations in small animal primary care (with a vet watching through a one-way window), and then the vet comes in and sees us as well, and discusses our care with the vet student.

So we get seen by two people:  a final year vet student and a veterinarian!  We Sphynx are always a bit hit with the vet students.

Now I don't like being restrained.  My mom and dad don't know what happened to me in my old home, but I really don't like being restrained.  That can make it challenging to bathe me, clean my ears, clip my nails, and, of course, examine me at the vet.

Fortunately, we seem to have found a system that works at the vet.  Yesterday, I sat on my mom's lap at the vet, and they did my examination with me in her lap, and even gave me my vaccination with me in her lap, and giving me lots of head rubs.  My mom gave me head rubs, the vet gave me lots of pats, and the vet student gave me the vaccination in my leg.  It seemed to work!

Here I am with the vet student, before we figured out the lap trick.

I got a clean bill of health at the vet, except I have quite a bit of tartar on my teeth, and need to go back for a dental next month.  Otherwise, everything is good!

That is nice beauty mark. I am glad you got a clean bill of health. I am sorry about your last home, I am sure your new family is superior. 2 of my cats came to me for the same reason, it is so sad, you are just as important as a baby.

Thank you for sharing your story, Devi. You are such a lovely girl and we cannot believe that anyone would ever give you away.

We're so glad you got a clean bill of health!

A word of advice: better not call Dragonheart any names. He's a very sensitive soul, you know!

First of all, it's VERY nice to meet you! We wanted to leave a HUGE pile of POTP for Merlin and we're praying and hoping that he will be here to welcome his Dad home in June. Wishes DO come true and we hope that one does for sure. Secondly, What a pretty girl you are Devi and how lucky to find a place where being "too affectionate" (!!!!) is not a problem! We hope to keep up with you three from now on....and wish you a SUPER DUPER weekend........

Hugs, Sammy

Very pleased to meet you Devi, we are old friends of your brothers but there have been more than a few changes at our house since the last time we talked to them.

Devi, you are a gorgeous girlcat and Veikko and Seppo have both agreed (when they could stop slapping each other). As for 'too affectionate'- well, we know you nekkids demand attention but it is such a shame those silly peeps with a new baby didn't want you to be Parent #3. But well done you on bagging a good 'rescue' home!
