Merlin

Hello everyone, it's the mom here.

I'm thinking Merlin's miracle might be coming to an end.

First of all, he normally wakes up my husband for breakfast every morning.  He didn't this morning, but we explained that away with the fact that we were up late last night, so maybe he wasn't hungry this morning.

All three cats always get treats every time any of them gets medication.  They all gobble them right up every time.

This morning, after giving Dragonheart his asthma inhaler, Merlin didn't touch the treats I gave him.  He had never not eaten those treats.

I picked him up.  He would normally purr like a motor boat.  He didn't purr.  I gave him head rubs.  He didn't purr.  Very unusual behaviour.

I picked him up and carried him downstairs to his favourite sun spot.  No purring.  I gave him his favourite treats.  They were sniffed and ignored.  I opened a can of his favourite Almo Nature food and put it right in front of him.  He ignored it.

I'm thinking maybe the cancer has finally spread enough that he is no longer hungry.  We knew this day would happen, but you are still never prepared when it actually does.

We'll see how things go the rest of the day, but if he has lost his appetite and is in pain, then I don't want to prolong his suffering, just for our sake.  I don't want to be selfish, but I also don't want to cut his life short either.

I should be happy and grateful.  We've had so many more months together than the specialists said we would.  But the reality of his condition is hitting home, and it's hard.

If we aren't able to visit our friends and comment, I know you'll understand.  I will definitely update this blog and/or Merlin's Facebook page to let you know how he is doing.

We love all of you and appreciate all the purrs, prayers, positive thoughts and support you've given us since we started blogging again.

We're sending out LOUD rumbly purrs for our buddy Merlin. We're purring that he is just having a bad day and will perk up again but we know it might not be the case. We understand how you feel....knowing that something COULD happen is one thing but when it seems the time is close it hits you hard. ((((hugs))))

Thank you for keeping us posted. We are all sending lots and lots of good vibes Merlin's way. He has beaten so many odds and we are so happy he is now in his new house, but we are still hoping this is just a passing "under the weather" rather than anything truly dreadful.

We love you, Merlin.

Dear Merlin, keep fighting my friend. You have fooled everyone for a while now and I hope you're just gathering your strength so you can go on and on. We all have bad days - I hope this is just one of those for you and tomorrow you'll be back to your sweet self. The blogosphere sends you POTP and hugs. I hope that helps!

I am so saddened to hear Merlin isn't doing well today. Will send love, hugs, and prayers across the miles. Merlin will let you know what he needs and with your love for him you will see that he get it. So glad that you all were given so much extra time with Merlin and know that whenever he decides it is time to leave one can never be ready. Love to all. <3
