Sweet

I have three interpretations for sweet this week.

In the first photo, I am asleep in the sun on my Gizzy quilt. My humans think I look very sweet in this photo.

Dragonheart sleeping in the sun
The next photo is of my mom last Sunday, after setting a Personal Best time for the half-marathon. She said it was a sweet run and that she experienced the sweet taste of victory. (No, she didn't win the race - she's much too slow for that - but it was a personal victory to set a PR (personal record) time in a half-marathon.)

Caylynn, my mom, at the end of the Munich Stadtlauf, having set a Personal Best time for the half-marathon
And finally, a sweet treat. My humans, on their wedding day, feeding each other a piece of their yummy, sweet wedding cake. (The uniform my human dad is wearing in the photo is his Mess Kit - the formal uniform that Canadian army officers wear. It is the military equivalent of a civilian tuxedo.)

#24 - 13 Things I'll Be Doing While My Humans Are In Berlin

So my humans are off to spend the weekend in Berlin. They'll be back on Sunday. While they are gone, here are 13 things I'll be doing:

  1. Sleeping alone in their bed at night, between their pillows.

  2. Waiting anxiously for the cat sitter to come twice a day to feed me, change my water, clean my litter, cuddle with me, and play with me.

  3. Playing with the new toys my humans gave me since they are leaving me.

  4. Playing with the cat sitter when she comes.

  5. Naping in my sleeping bag.

  6. Lying in the sun on my Gizzy quilt.

  7. Watching birdies.

  8. Using my scratching post.

  9. Siting on my cat tree and watch everything that's happening outside.

  10. Playing in my tent and wish Stella was here to play Tent Wars.

  11. Visiting my blogging friends less than I normally do, since it's harder for me to get on the computer when my humans aren't here.

  12. Missing my humans.

  13. Waiting eagerly for their return.

Cats on Tuesday: Bird Watching

Cats on Tuesday So my humans were finally able to catch me chittering at the birds on film! Unfortunately, you can't hear my chittering, but you can see my mouth moving, and at one point, you can hear my tail slapping against the chest that I'm sitting on. Bird watching is lots of fun! I get very excited whenever I see birds in our yard, and I start chittering at them, and my tail vigourously lashes back and forth. When I start chirping, my humans call it my "birdie noise."

If you have trouble viewing the YouTube version, you can try viewing another version here.

For those of you who can't view video, I have included a photo (a screen capture from the video) below.

Movie Monday: Feathers are Fun!

In this movie, I am having lots of fun playing with one of the toys I received in my Secret Paws package from Kashim and Othello! It's a fuzzy ball with feathers on it! I love playing with feathers. Thanks again to Othello and Kashim!

Secret Paws!

My Secret Paws Summer Package arrived, from Kashim and Othello! I love everything I received: some yummy treats (including some of Kashim and Othello's favourites), a Treat Ball, a bunch of toys including a couple of mice with bells, a couple of feather-butt mousies, and a fluffy feather ball! I am having so much fun with my new toys and the treats are delicious. Thank you very much Kashim and Othello! I love my Secret Paws package!

Thank you again, Kashim and Othello! I love all my toys and the treats!

In other news, my human mom ran a GREAT race today, and ran a PB (Personal Best) for the half-marathon. She is very slow, so her time isn't that impressive, but for her it was fast! She ran the half-marathon (13.1 miles / 21.1 kilometres) in 2:31:18 (2 hours, 31 minutes, 18 seconds). Her previous best personal time for a half-marathon was 2:35:40, so she is absolutely delighted!

Half-Marathon Sunday

My human mom running the Regensburg Half-Marathon
My silly humans are running another one of these silly things. This time it's the München Stadtlauf (Munich City Run) so at least they don't have to travel anywhere. But I don't understand running 13.1 miles / 21.1 kilometres, just for the fun of it!

Oh well, it seems to make them happy! Good luck Mom & Dad.

I'll have a regular Sunday post up later. Something exciting arrived in the mail!

In these photos, I have just been bathed, so I am shiny and clean. The pink skin on my chest, in particular, gleams bright and shiny.

Farewell Chatham

Chatham has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. Chatham, I hope that you will find the one who came before me, Whiskers, there. He was also a Siamese, and he went to the Rainbow Bridge on September 1st, 2006. Unlike you, he didn't quite make it to his 20th birthday, dying 2 months shy of that milestone. Please drop by Chatham's blog to leave your condolences. (Thanks to Skeezix for the graphic.)

Frootbat Friday & A Meme

My dear good friend Miss Peach tagged me for a meme. You can also see my Frootbat Friday photos to the right (as always, click on a photo to view a larger image).

  1. Favourite season? Summer. It is nice and warm, and the sun feels good on my skin.

  2. DragonheartFavourite colours? Blue, red, and green.

  3. Favourite room? Wherever my humans happen to be! I also like my "cat room" with my large cat tree that sits in front of the window; the family room because one wall is floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall windows so I can get lots of sun and watch lots of birdies in the backyard; and the bedroom at night when I curl up with my two humans.

  4. Do you like dogs? My breeder had two woofies, and they were nice.

  5. Ever been in an airplane box? No.

  6. Do you have the get bathed? Yes! Once a week. As I've mentioned before, because I have no fur, the oil that my skin secretes builds up, and my tongue can't remove it all.

  7. Are you in love? Yes! I love my human mom and dad. I also have a very special friend in Stella, and maybe when I'm old enough, we'll be girlfriend and boyfriend. *blush*

  8. Where would you like to travel to? Egypt. I would like to see the sphinx (note the difference in spelling - the sphinx is the giant statue near the pyramids whereas Sphynx are the breed of hairless cats)

  9. What do you ignore? Not much! I am very curious. Sometimes I ignore my humans when they say "no", but sometimes I do listen.

  10. Dragonheart How many lives have you used up? None. I'm not even one yet!

  11. Do you have any dark secrets? No. I'm still young, and I already confessed to just about everything in the "True Confessions" meme.

  12. What is your favourite holiday? Christmas! My human dad is home for a long time, so I get to spend a lot of time with my two humans, there are lots of fun presents to open and new toys to play with, and there is lots of ribbon and paper to play with, both when my humans are trying to wrap presents and then when all the presents are unwrapped!

  13. Water or milk? Milk!

  14. Why do you blog? It's fun! I like to have a record of my life and I enjoy meeting new cats from all over the world. I have made so many wonderful friends through blogging.

  15. Are you into extremes? Yes! Billy Joel's song "I Go To Extremes" could be my theme song. I like to play hard, have adventures outside in my stroller or on my harness, but I can also flop right down and sleep on my Gizzy quilt or in my sleeping bag.

  16. Favourite TV shows? The shows my humans watch: Mythbusters, Stargate (SG-1 and Atlantis), Battlestar Galactica (the new series), M*A*S*H, and Smallville.

  17. Are you a pesty lap cat? Oh yes, I'm a real cuddle bug. I love curling up on my humans' laps and cuddling with them.

  18. Inside or outside cat? Inside. It's not safe for me to go outside unsupervised, so I only go outside on my harness or in my stroller.

  19. What makes you happy? Being with my humans, being pet, playing, treats, making new friends, getting comments on my blog (but not the mean, nasty ones of course!)

  20. Your most embarrassing moment? I confessed to this before, but one time after I used the litterbox, I had a poopy bum. Well, I went and jumped on the bed and sat on my human dad's chest while he was reading. I managed to get his shirt and the bedsheets dirty, so my humans had to change them and put them in the wash.
I tag: Stella, Faz, Yao-lin, Caesar & Princess.

Thursday Thirteen: Munich

Thursday Thirteen - Nymphenburg PalaceI live in the beautiful city of München (Munich), Deutschland (Germany), which is the capital of Bayern (Bavaria). Here are 13 things to see and do in Munich.

#23 - 13 Things to See and Do in Munich
  1. Nymphenburg Palace and Park: The baroque palace in the west part of Munich was the summer residence of the Bavarian monarchs. (The photo above is of Nymphenburg Palace).

  2. Neue Schloss Schleißheim with fountains and gardensSchleißheim Palaces: Together with the Lustheim Palace, the Old and the New Schleißheim Palace constitute one of the major baroque complexes in Germany.

  3. Munich Residence and Treasury: For five hundred years the facility in the middle of the old city was the residence and center of power of the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings, but also an expression of art, intellect and passion for building. The Treasury offers unique gold work from the Middle Ages right through to the classicism period. But the eminent collection also comprises precious works made of mountain crystal and ivory, gems, jewelry, tableware, right up to Ottoman daggers. Among the highlights of the collection are the Bavarian crown insignia and the precious statuette of St George the Knight.

  4. Chinesischer Turm at the Englischer GartenEnglischer Garten: Munich's famous 900-acre park has shaded paths, brooks, ponds and swans and is best known for its four beer gardens (Chinesischer Turm, Seehaus, Hirschau, Aumeister) and nude sunbathers. The park stretches from the center of the city to the northern city border.

  5. Munich Court Garden: The Munich Court Garden was begun in 1613 as a complex Renaissance Garden, with a pavilion dating from 1615 by Heinrich Schön the Elder in the middle of a network of paths intersecting at various angles.

  6. Olympic Park: Site of the 1972 Olympics, this landscaped park contains sport facilities, lakes, bicycle paths, concert venues, restaurants and a football (soccer to those in North America) stadium, as well as its landmark "tent-style" roofs.

  7. Frauenkirche: The "Cathedral of Our Blessed Lady" is the largest church in Munich. Located in the city center, the Catholic cathedral is a major landmark and a popular tourist attraction. It has a Late Gothic nave from the 15th century, and an interior with works of art spanning 5 centuries

  8. Tierpark Hellabrun (website in German): Munich's zoo was the first "Geo-Zoo" in the world, with approximately 460 species and a total of about 5000 animals.

  9. Hofbräuhaus: This beloved beer hall has existed since 1644 and lives up to its reputation: beer, food, tourists, oom-pah music, drunken revelry and Lederhosen.

  10. Hieroglyphics at the Egyptian Museum Staatliches Museum Ägyptischer Kunst (website in German): The Egyptian collection is located in the Residenz. The museum evolved from the collections made by Duke Albrecht V and King Ludwig I and contains pieces from every period of Egyptian history, from the predynastic period (4500-3000 B.C.) to the Coptic period (4th-9th c. A.D.). On exhibit are sculptures, reliefs, jewelry, tools, and weapons, as well as sarcophagi.

  11. Deutsches Museum: This Munich museum was one of the first science and technology museums in the world, and also one of the most frequently visited. It is also one of the largest, covering an area of 50,000 square meters. The museum has been providing visitors with a comprehensive basic understanding of science and technology for one hundred years.

  12. Oktoberfest: Running from late September to early October, Munich is famous for this Bavarian Beer festival that features more than just beer. Visit the Oktoberfest website for more details, including the history of this festival.

  13. Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site: The memorial site was erected on the grounds of the Dachau concentration camp. We can never forget what occurred and we should honour the memory of those who were killed.

Hair

Dragonheart(Click photo for a larger image)

Sphynx are hairless cats, so as a Sphynx, my most distinguishing feature is my lack of hair! However, like all Sphynx, I do have some hair on my body - most Sphynx have hair on the bridge of their nose, and Sphynx may also have hair on their ears, like I do, or other parts of the anatomy (the CFA breed standard allows for "short, fine hair may be present on the feet, outer edges of the ears, the tail, and the scrotum. The bridge of the nose should be normally coated.") As for myself, I only have hair on my nose and my ears. (You can really see my hair if you click on the image to make it larger.)

HairNSkin Dragonheart(Click photo for a larger image)

In this photo, I am checking out the birdies in our backyard. Watching birds is so much fun! In this photo (especially if you click to see it full size) you can once again see the short, curly fur on and in my ears, my ear tufts, and the fur on my nose. As I've mentioned before, the fact that the fur on my nose is black and white means that I'm black and white in colour, and due to the pattern of my colouration, I'm a black and white tuxedo Sphynx.

Cats on Tuesday: My First Five Days

Cats on Tuesday I was tagged for the "First Five Days in Your Forever Home" meme. This shouldn't be too difficult, since I started blogging when I first joined my humans in my Forever Home.

Day 1

The day started with a bath, and with having my nails clipped. A few hours later, two humans that I didn't know came to visit, and my breeder scooped me up, and handed me to the female human. She seemed nice enough, petting me, but I didn't know her, and so I was shaking. My older sister Flappy seemed to like these new humans, and was purring away and wandering all over them.

The humans talked with my breeder, and she provided them with some paperwork, and some cat food (yum!), some litter and some toys. Pretty soon I was put into a carrier with my familiar sleeping bag. There was also a fleece blanket in the carrier, but my sleeping bag was familiar, so I curled up in it.

I was brought to a car, when the female human kept me on her lap in the cage. I quickly fell asleep in my sleeping bag. I slept through most of the drive.

Eventually, we stopped, and my carrier was picked up and brought into a house. I was put into a room (which was my Nursery, or cat room), and my carrier door was opened. I meowed, since everything seemed strange, and I ran around the room, looking for my older sister Flappy, and the other cats. I couldn't find them.

The female human then picked me up, and put me in a litter box. It was different from the one I was used to, but had the same litter. So I knew it was a litter box. Then she showed me my water dish and food dish. Again, a little different, but the water was okay, and the food is what I've always eaten.

The humans had a nice cat tree, and they had a fuzzy fleece blanket on one of the platforms, so I hung out there for a while. Eventually I felt brave enough to play with the humans, chasing a feather on a string, and I then let them pet me. Later that evening, we all slept in the same room. I curled up next to the human female for a short time, and then went to sleep on the cat tree.

I made this blog post about my first day.

Day 2

Dragonheart

I was still confined to the Nursery. I thoroughly explored this room. I really like the cat tree, which is similar to the ones my breeder had in her place. The two humans have a peacock feather on a string that was lots of fun to play with. I also had fun playing with the wand toy that consists of a ball and bell on the end of a long ribbon.

Every now and then, I would curl up in the female human's lap for a bit,and let her pet me. Then I would be off exploring the room again. I found a very cool cat tent that I checked out. The human female went out for several hours, but the human male stayed with me.

My mom wrote about this day on her blog.

Day 3

This was a very exciting day.! I was allowed to explore the rest of the house! Up until now, I had been confined to the Cat Nursery, so that I wouldn't be overwhelmed. Today I was allowed to explore the entire house. The human male was gone for a large portion of the day, but the human female kept me company for most of the day. She disappeared for about an hour and a half, and I was a little worried about being left alone, but she came back. She did lock me up in the Cat Nursery while she was gone.

When I explored the house, it turned out that the Cat Nursery was the largest room upstairs, but there were two other rooms to explore. One had a big bed that was comfy to jump on. The other room had this strange-looking machine (my humans say it's a Bowflex). There was one other room upstairs that I wasn't allowed into at that time. It turned out to be the bathroom.

I made my way down the stairs, all by myself, and found another HUGE room down there, with big windows that are wonderful to sit at. I found a very slippery couch - it was hard to jump up onto, since I can't dig my claws into it. My humans said it was made of leather. There was another couch that wass much easier to jump onto. There was also a cat tree in this big room for me. I also found a table that my humans eat at. They wouldn't let me jump on the table and eat with them at supper time.

There were an additional two rooms downstairs that I wasn't allowed into at the time. The doors were kept closed.

That evening, all of us (me and the two humans) slept in the Cat Nursery again.

Here is the post I made about my third day.

Day 4

Dragonheart

Dragonheart

Once again, I was allowed the run of the house (except for the few doors that remained closed). Once again, the human male was gone for most of the day, but the human female kept me company. Again, she was gone for a short while during the day (it turned out that she was going out to run when she left me) and I was locked in the Cat Nursery whenever she went out.

When my mom was home, I decided to try to help her study. For some reason, she didn't appreciate my help! Silly human.

On the evening of the fourth day, I was allowed to sleep with my humans in their big bed! My human dad blocked off the stairway so that I couldn't venture downstairs during the night, and they kept the doors to the Cat Nursery and their bedroom open, so I could get at my water, food and litterbox whenever I wanted to. I spent most of the night curled up between my two humans, under the covers.

I made this post on my fourth day. My mom made this post of me playing with my toys.

Day 5

DragonheartOn the fifth day, I participated in my first Thursday Thirteen! My mom also did a Thursday Thirteen, featuring photos of me!

Once again, I was allowed the run of (most of the) house during the day, and I spent a lot of the day either curled up in my mom's lap, curled up in my sleeping bag in my tent, or hanging out on my cat tree.

I had lots of fun playing with my toys, especially the toys with feathers on them, and the various wand toys. I was getting used to the routine around this place. I was fed stinky goodness three times a day: morning, noon and night. I had water and crunchies available all the time. My mom would head out for an hour or two in the middle of the day (to go for a run) and I would curl up in my sleeping bag and have a nap while she was out running. My dad was gone during most of the day, but he always came home in the late afternoon.

At night, I again slept in the humans' bed, between the two of them and under the covers.

I was really settling into my new home and enjoying living with these two humans.
