Photo Hunters: Original

PSHunt

Original

This was the original resting place of Canada's Unknown Soldier. He was an unidentified Canadian soldier from the First World War, originally buried at this Commonwealth Grave Site near Canada's National Vimy Memorial, in France. As Wikipedia says:
"The body of the soldier was formerly buried near the memorial at Vimy Ridge, Pas-de-Calais, France, the site of the first major battle where Canadian troops fought as a combined force. More specifically, the soldier was at the Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery in Souchez, in Plot 8, Row E, Grave 7, only a couple of kilometres from the Vimy Memorial."

Former grave site of Canada's Unknown Soldier
Former grave site of Canada's Unknown Soldier(Click to view a larger image)

From the Veteran's Affairs Canada web site:
"In May 2000, the remains of an unidentified Canadian soldier who died in the First World War were repatriated from France and, with great ceremony, were buried in a special tomb in front of the National War Memorial in Ottawa.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was created to honour the more than 116,000 Canadians who sacrificed their lives in the cause of peace and freedom. Furthermore, the Unknown Soldier represents all Canadians, whether they be navy, army, air force or merchant marine, who died or may die for their country in all conflicts - past, present, and future."
My humans took these photos during their trip to France in August. As a serving officer in the Canadian Forces, my dad made a point of visiting many of the former battle sites and memorials from the First World War in Northern France, and of course, Canada's National War Memorial at Vimy Ridge.

Update on me: Both yesterday morning and this morning, I was fine when using the litterbox, but last night, my bum was bloody again. My humans successfully gave me my pill, but then I threw it up, so it didn't do much good. We are waiting to hear back from the vet on the test results.

Thank you all for your suggestions. My humans haven't been able to source Pill Pockets in Germany, and ordering from North America is expensive, and things have to go through Customs, so you end up paying a lot and it takes a long time. I do get teeth-cleaning treats daily - both Feline Greenies and some German teeth-cleaning treats, but they don't seem to do much. (Feline Greenies are safe, btw. My vet sells them in her office for cats with dental problems.)

I eat very high quality foods. My wet food consists of 75% meat or fish, 24% cooking water and 1% rice. My dry food is grain-free. Both are 100% organic, and made of hormone-free, antibiotic-free meats and ocean- or wild lake-caught fish. Bad teeth are just something that Sphynx are prone to, so I guess I'll have to live with it. My humans have been searching and searching for a German site that sells cat toothpaste, or the water additive that can help with teeth. My mom finally found a site that sells cat toothpaste, toothbrushes, and gel last night, so she ordered some. She still hasn't found a place offering the water additive.

Thanks for all your thoughts, purrs and prayers. They mean a lot to me and my humans.

I'm sorry Dragonheart has a problem. Not to worry you, but I read something about Greenies causing problems with dogs. I took notice because we give our pooches Greenies on occasion.
Hope the kitty is okay!!!

Great post Dragonheart. So many Canadians gave their life in both world wars. It is fitting there is a memorial to an unknown soldier. It is good to see the man's original resting place.

I hope your teeth can be sorted. Happy weekend

Oh poor DH I just read that you are sick ! Unfortunately I don't know what pill pockets are, is it a medication ? What does your vet say, can't it be hemoroides ? That happens sometimes with cats. In the UK they have a lot of cat medications, maybe you could look there and there you don't have to pay customs because it's part of the EU.

Patti said...

I hope you feel better soon, and I hope the pilling isn't too traumatic for your Mom.

Daisy said...

That is a very beautiful tribute post you made, and I like your interpretation of the theme.

Dragonheart, I hope you are feeling better soon. If you can't find Pill Pockets, you can try wrapping the pill up in a piece of soft cheese. That's what Pixie uses every day. She does not actually eat the cheesey pill ball, but it holds the pills together and keeps them from tasting bad when my Mommie pushes then down her throat.

That's a lovely original tribute post Dragonheart. Hope you are feeling better today.

oh my darling dragonheart i am sorry to hear you are having problems. which food do you eat? it sounds like the stuff my mum was about to try me on before I got put on the exclusion diet...is it called Almo Nature or Nature's Menu? Those are bery high quality foods too. Please kep your vet informed of you situation and seek adviuce immediately for anything that isn't 'right' no matter how trivial it may seem.

my mum's mum's cusin (phew!) was a serving occifer in the RAF - he got shot down over Libya in the second world war - his remains were never found, but the family have a litle memorial for him in the local churchyard.

Our mommie has read many books about WW2 and the brave actions of the Canada and US soldiers that helped all countries to be free again.

WW1 she does not know too much about... she needs to study up

I am sorry to hear you are having health challenges and hope you will soon be doing well again. I know I've read about something that helps keep teeth clean, but I just can't think of it right now. If I remember it later I'll come back and let you know. Congratulations on your little brother. That is so very exciting. I look forward to future updates on your health and your brother.
